    Ok,

So I walk along Stephens green (south side of the square) every morning on my daily ways and I always walk past a mother and child that goes to one of those private schools on Leeson street. The kid is about 10 but doesn't have you know the run of the mill school backpack, no he has one of those suitcase bags with wheels attached to it. what is the deal with that like?

But the real punchline to the story is that he doesn't wheel it himself, he gets his mother to do it for him. Now before you ask it is his school bag as I've seen him heading into the school with it.

Now it wasn't that long ago since I was in school but wtf has happened to today's youth that they need to use a wheely school bag. Have primary school books gotten that heavy that he couldn't be physically able to carry them?

His digits and wrists are too sore from playing xbox I'd say. Its only right that the mother should lighten his load after hours of swearing and maiming on xbox live :P

If my kids were not able to leave at least half thier books in school they would need a wheelie school bag.

those wheeled schoolbags aren't cheap either. about 50 euro.

    even primary school books?

jesus so it must be a long time since i was in primary school, when i was there i had at max an irish, english, maths book and three copies.

i was well able to skip - not that i did - home from school none the wiser.

although i used to get pissed off at getting 1 copy page essays, who'd have thunk i'd be writing 100 page A4 documents regularly now

Yeah I'm amazed my back isn't ****ed from carrying heavy books on my back - and only using one strap, cuz it wasn't cool to put the two straps on your back at the time...

Primary school kids do so many more subjects now- with books and workbooks - my 8yr olds sack is quite heavy, but even he would draw the line at a wheelie sack - it's just so not cool :D

and the muffins with flavoured milk.

In my day you either had a bun or a cheese sandwich with some old fashion regular milk.

I would've killed for a wheelie schoolbag when I was younger. Do you not remember how heavy schoolbooks were? They should seperate them into chapters as far as I'm concerned.

You only need to use 3 of the pages in your book for your homework but you still have to lug home the whole big heavy book. And with about 8 classes a day that's 8 damn heavy books!

They should divide them up into chapters that can be separated from eachother. I'm sure it'd be more expensive but it's better than a pain in your back from carrying a schoolbag that weighs more than you!

He probably has a weak back or some condition that means he can't lift heavy stuff. Wheeling a school bag in to my school would have been a lot more hassle than it was worth, the childs probably embarrassed about it.

When I was in national school my schoolbag was something along the lines of the one in attachment ... except there were 2 arm straps instead of the shoulder one!
Having seen the amount of books younger relations now have they would nearly need a trailer to bring all their books in

Im surprised that the kids of today dont have all their school books incorporated into their fu**ing mobile phones and Ipods.

Consider that even in first year you could be taking up to 20 kgs, with books, then if you had a gear bag ith you aswell you were well weighed down.

Not to be sexist here, but some of the girls struggled lugging the bags home.

I can see why secondary students have lots of books, but i cant see any reason why a 8 year old needs a pile of books.

The Government won't allow it cos the GPS chips and microphones are hidden in the book spines.

The remote access on their phones would be more effective, they could catch them on the hop :D

No problem with wheelie bags at all - books are heavy.

Its probably more of an issue with the fact that the yung uns dont seem appreciate anything much....thankfully due to the big "R" people will start raising kids again and not micro consumers that match their American style refrigerators . . .
