how to get subtitles to work with vlc!

hey guys
how does on get subtitles to work in vlc
i have an avi file, and i have tried file-open - tick subitles- enter path to subtitles, *.srt file.

should this work?

i get a DEMUX error coming up everytime!

what the heck am i doing wrong?!

normally just have the srt file with the exact same file name as the avi file and its picked up automagically ...

(extension being srt of course)

It could be that the subtitle track isn't selected... Video-Subtitle track... if there's a subtitle track there you can select it. That's the only way i've ever seen subs work.

Try putting "subtitles" into google and redownload the subtitles for the movie you have

Copied this from another forum, but its what i do:

" You can do this by naming the .srt file to have the same name as the divx file you would like to associate it with. For example, if your video file is myvideo.divx, then your .srt file would need to be called: myvideo.srt "

Then you need to click options (i think) in VLC and then subtitles and select the subtitles you want to use (although it should just start automatically)
