htc p3600/trinity/spv m700 not connecting to 3

hi there. i have a p3600 (supposedly 3g phone) and im trying to connect to 3 network by using the sim that was in my skypephone. however it doesnt seem to find any service with the sim. works ok with 2g sims. are there any settings i should be looking at? ive checked online and it would seem the p3600 should be able to…

The p3600 supports HSDPA.
I had no problems using a three sim in mine.
IIRC that was with both billpay and threepay.
Is the HSDPA turned on?

yes, hspda is turned on.

gsm seems to connect and stays on. when i leave it on automatic, it connects to the gsm portion then after 10 mins it goes totally off, ie, no service.
