Israel - Holy Land - Currency to use?

    Hi I'm going to Jerusalem and Bethlehem next week - just wondering will they take euros there (for a meal or any entrance fee?) or do I need local currency?

    You need local Shekels iirc
    Don't use ATMs on Sundays, the commission is apparently 10 times higher than usual.

    Shekels is what you'll need. But you may find hotels billing your card in USD or maybe even Euros if you ask.

    I didn't notice the card getting charged more for cash on a Sunday, but I never paid that much attention really.

    Since Sunday is the equiv of Monday in europe, I'd be surprised. Saturday is the Sabbath day.

    Hotels may be able to bill in EUR, but most places should accept USD, but you'd be best with local currency. West bank might be different, but USD is probably ok.

    Was odd having to go into work on the Sunday when I was over there.

    Anyway, I think if your there on a Saturday then Jerusalem might be a bit quiet. I ended up doing a tour of Jerusalem on the Friday and then spent the Saturday in Tel Aviv, which is never quiet.

    shekels or dollars from what I recall.

    Be aware that once you've got an Israeli stamp in your passport though there are certain oither countries that you'll then not be able to go to, admittedly a lot of them you probably wouldn't want ot go to anyway though.

    Banks are open but there is no world currency trade on Sundays, and so the banks charge a commission that is extortion. What I heard anyways.
