I feel slightly suspicious of anyone who has strong feelings either way concerning WAGs

I feel slightly suspicious of people who know what a WAG is. Some kind of hair replication apparel worn on the head in a caps-lock factory?

    They stand for nothing

Most have no formal eduaction other than MAC makeup
The only thing they know how to do it look pretty and which shop to be seen in

I cannot respect a person who has not worked a full day in their lives and does not want to develop themselves beyond their peers (i.e. reality show, lose 10lb and look good etc)

Ah don't be so hard on them. If I won the lotto (which is what marrying a pro-football player amounts to) I would probably just live the high life too. I'm sure some of them have gotten involved in charity work and what not.

Peter Crouch's missus was on Jonathan Ross and she looked decidedly uncomfortable when Jonathan Ross wheeled out the famous quote:

Interviewer: Peter, what do you think you'd be if you weren't a professional footballer?
    Crouch: Probably a virgin

But I thought that was the whole point, we dont hear them doing any charity work or profound giving. Only showing up to the opening of an evelope. People being famous for their spouses and showing up for these things

    Victoria Beckham http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/179-victoria-beckham
    Cheryl Cole http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/news/north-east-news/2008/04/13/cheryl-cole-backs-teen-cancer-unit-79310-20756759/
    Coleen Rooney http://www.coleenrooney.net/information/charity-work/

Funnily enough many of the WAGs were actually famous in their own right e.g. Victoria Adams, Cheryl Tweedy, Louise Redknapp.

I think there will always be unambitious women who want to be looked after, but what troubles me most is how the WAGS (bar the obvious few who have their own careers and interests) have popularised the idea of marrying a rich man in order to be rich once again. Young girls are becoming more and more obsessed with image, and less so with their own career aspirations. If you know any teen girls, look at their bebo site and you'll know exactly what I mean: taking and posting sexy photographs of themselves, blogging about how cool and sexy they are. In these post feminist times, women are once again becoming mindless commodities who can be obtained for a price, whether it be money or status; except this time they are doing it to themselves.

Yeah but its these new kids that think "Aw yeah all I need to do is be really slutty till I find a footballer to go out with me and then I'll be just like them"
I'm not easily disgusted but this does it for me...

The likes of Victoria Beckham, Louise Redknapp and Cheryl Cole were famous before they met their other halves and being in the industry they're in they probably meet more famous men than normal Joe public men so it's likely they will end up with someone famous too. Plus these three women continue to make their own money so I don't think they should be shown in the same light as your typical wag who was a nobody before they met their footballer boyfriend and who do nothing.

Coleen Rooney was with him long before he became a famous footballer, they're childhood sweethearts so again it's not fair to tar her with the same brush. Even though she's properly milked it since he became well known.

Funnily enough those four are the 'Top WAGs'. And you can't even blame Coleen Rooney for milking it. She has an interest in fashion and acting. She'd be mad not to use Wayne's fame as a way of opening doors.

    Whore-mungers.

Do you mean whoremongers because that doesn't make much sense?

Or do you mean whore mungers as in people who mung whores? That would be pretty gross although it would probably be quicker than munging regular non-whore girls as they would already be eh... full.

    Do whoremongers sell whores?

And at least she's making her own money and not sitting on her arse at home living off his money like many of them are.

I would say that's a load of hypocritical arse from Mrs Cole (soon to be Miss Tweedy again).

Wait a sec OP! Don't YOU aspire to be married to a certain footballer...? ;)

To be fair, she has a career in her own right. She's not your typical WAG *points finger at Coleen and Claudine(and basically the rest)*:pac:

    What is her job?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 848 ✭✭✭MayMay

    What is her job?

Well she's made money from her perfume, fitness video and most of all her fashion range in Asda. It's more affordable clothing so I think that's a good thing in that she isn't going down the designer label route and is catering for the average person on the street.

I'm not saying she's Wonder Woman or anything but she seems to be more normal and grounded than the rest of the airheads from interviews I've seen her do. They were going out for years before he got anywhere so I have slightly more respect for her than I would for other Wags.
