I've decied I want to start taking more photos again,
I previously stopped when I got very busy in work. Since the whole world has started to slow down. I've a little mor free time, and a little less cash.
So I wouldn't mind if my hobby (photography) could be used to get a big of cash in. One route is portraits and similar, and the other is published work.

I'm taking part in an event this weekend, a large poker tournament (another hobby). Its going to be an international affair, and most poker mags will be listening out. So I decided to take some snaps while I am there, hopefully i'll get some good ones. That might be sought after.

But i'm not sure of the best way to go about this, I have two options I can think of.
    1. Aproach a few mags (or single mag) before I go down, and arrange to use my work if its good enough
    2. Take the photos, and offer them afterwards to any takers

As many other posters here are regularly published in both daily/weekly papers. and specialist magazines, I was hoping for some opinions of what to do. Best approach etc

The best approach is to have them waiting on the shots but even to get an idea or rates from the magazines you want to pitch to, have a look at the magazines and get an idea of what they use already. I am already at a lot of events so I pitch afterwards but everybody is different.

Theres really no silver bullet answer to this question..

The answer is both... Attend lots of events, pitching both before and after...
I also find a web site presence, be it flickr or your own site is very important..

It can often help to have a niche such as poker and then develop contacts in that area.

When its your first time doing an event it'll be very much like the first time with everything :) You'll be a little unsure of how it all works but once you have that out of the way you'll find the whole process a lot easier..

Best of luck and post some shots after..
