I keep reading that the Irish have the highest private debt in the world. How much do you owe on your credit card? (And do you pay it off fast?)

Don't have one. Don't believe in spending what I don't have.

I pay off everything that I buy on my credit card on a daily basis, so €0 for me.

Huehuehue. Isnt it because of all the home owners? I think the british have the highest rate of credit card debt in the world.
Me, I still got some holiday payments waiting to pay off. Really should do that.

Try not to owe so make the effort to either have money on the card pre-purchase or lodge money soon after a purchase....Can't really afford to make purchases anyway :)

    🤪

Owe a little over €600, but at the same time my credit limit is only around €850.

If you can read this, you're too close!

It gets paid off automatically the minute it's due so I guess that makes it zilch.

Nothing. I hate using them to the extent that if Ryanair had some office in town where you could pay in cash Id much rather fly in and get my printed documents rather than the hassle of entering card details myself.

And they deduct a fiver or something per month for merely having a card I barely use, only have it for booking flights.

People who buy groceries or drink in the offy using a card and holding up the queue should be executed via electrodes wired to their nads.

I owe nowt on my credit card. I never buy anything on it unless I know I can pay it off pretty quickly. Been that way for about 8 years, since I had to take out a loan to pay the damn thing off..

Around 200 Snots. They increased my limit to 1k without asking me once upon a time, i called up and asked for it to be reduced back to E400. I only use it on line so if any Scummy Scammer steals my details, they aren't exactly going to retire off my card :D

Mine is payed off in full at the end of every month by DD. Banks hate people who do this as it means you get 1 month free credit off them as you dont pay any interest. Which means they dont make any money out of you. Its about the only little one up your ever going to get on a bank in your life so my advice is to USE IT!

If im ever put on a monthly salary i think ill be using my CC as my everyday shopper. Pay the balance off in full at the same time your wages come in. Free credit for you, and as far as i know theres no transaction charge on your CC, unlike Laser who charge 20 or 30c per transaction (or something in that region)

Only a few hundred on mine. I never carry any cash at all, which is quite handy when a chugger is looking for a handout. I tell them that if they've got a laser/visa terminal in their bag, I mighty give them a few quid, but they haven't caught me out yet. :D

I use it for work expenses so can be out 50-5000 euro at any given time but get them back quickly enough from the company.

I myself is not in any debt(phewww :D) but i do know people who have CC debt up to their eyes.
And yes, we have the highest personal debt in the EU(€368bn+, explanation at http://archives.tcm.ie/businesspost/2008/06/15/story33690.asp for those who are interested in this subject and are still sober :D)

So every person in this country owes about €94k, start coughing up! :D

Owe about 5k will pay it off next month . Credit limit is about 17k .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 320 ✭✭aviendha

Paid off at end of month DD with wages, so zero. Never carry cash (except on a night out) so will have up to 1000euro of purchases racked up each month... even having to pay the 1euro interest the odd time I use it abroad to get cash galls me!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

I pay it off in full every month. I really just use it for buying stuff off teh internetz and when travelling. If I'm buying stuff in Ireland its cash or laser all the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 768 ✭✭✭6ix

Pay it off in full very month, except for perhaps the month when I've come back from holidays, or else made a very large purchase on the card. I've had one for about 3 years, and paid about €30 in interest that whole time.

I really can't understand people's lack of discipline, and that they "wouldn't trust themselves" with a credit card. They're a great utility if you just use them right.
