How to deal with unruly kids?

The state of Nebraska has the solution!

    http://news.yahoo.com/story//ap/20080925/ap_on_re_us/children_safe_haven
OMAHA, Neb. – Eleven children ranging in age from 1 to 17 were left at hospitals Wednesday under Nebraska's unique safe haven law, which allows caregivers to abandon youngsters up to age 19 without fear of prosecution.

Nine of the children came from one family. The five boys and four girls were left by their father, who was not identified, at Creighton University Medical Center's emergency room. Unrelated boys ages 11 and 15 also were surrendered Wednesday at Immanuel Medical Center.

The law, which went into effect in July, initially was intended to protect infants. In a compromise with senators worried about arbitrary age limits, the measure was expanded to include the word "child," which wasn't defined. Some have interpreted this to mean anyone under the age of 19.

At least 16 children have been abandoned since the law took effect, according to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Two of those cases don't fall under the safe haven law because one child was left at a police station and one child's age wasn't covered by the law.

Todd Landry, director of Health and Human Services' division of Children and Family Services, said that in nearly every case, the parents who left their children felt overwhelmed and had decided they didn't want to be parents anymore. None of the kids dropped off so far have been in danger, he said.

You're gonna see dirty old men in shabby macs putting "safe haven" signs in front of their shacks all over Nebraska before shuffling back inside with their fingers crossed.

Think of the money it'll save them on sweets and van hire.

Sums it up in one really. It'll be interesting to see if it takes off among greater numbers.

Oh yes, it's much better that children stay with adults who are unable to mind them.
Its much better that a child's crackwhore mom has to keep the child that she is not qualified to keep.

Seriously, guys, try thinking before jumping on the high-horse. Even if you don't agree with it, there is a good arguement for it.

I could understand one maybe even two. But to keep poppin em out until you have nine and then say you can't take care of them.

First no-fault divorce and now this. even taking care of your own children is optional now.

a lot of these kids will turn to scum after growing up in a 'safe haven' all because the father would rather watch baseball or that ****ty american football

'How come everyone today is too much of a pussy to smack their kids around? That's what I want to know: why are parents afraid to beat their kids? When I was a kid and I screwed up, my parents beat my ass. We didn't have a conversation about it. I didn't have a "time out." In fact, I've never even once been grounded in my life. What's the point? Send your kid to his room and make him play video games and read comic books all day? Great idea, why don't you take him to a psychiatrist while you're at it so she can pull some disorder out of her ass to hide the fact that you're a bad parent?

Kids today need a good beating every now and then. If you don't beat your kids when they fall out of line, the next thing you know your son will go off and bang some dude in the ass just out of spite. You tell them to clean their room, they say "no," you smack them. It's simple; it works. Don't listen to these assholes on TV with their bull**** hippy psycho babble; if they had it their way, every child would be raised in a pastel colored room with Philip Glass pumped through the speakers 24 hours a day. Then again, it might not be all that bad because it will make your kids complacent, so it won't be as hard for them to swallow when they realize that they'll be spending the rest of their lives chained to a desk in a cubicle writing reports to make someone else rich.

The problem is that kids today think their opinions matter. By not beating your kids, they get a skewed perspective of reality where they start thinking that they have it rough and that they can get away with dying their hair and listening to Insane Clown Posse. That's where you need to come in and put the law down.'

For a good minute there, I thought that was your genuine opinion.
The one-two shut-the-hell-up. This is priceless when you're shopping and your kid won't shut the hell up: "I'm hungry, I want toys, I need my Insulin..." etc. First smack your kid (the 5 across the eyes technique works). Wait a few seconds for your kid to start crying, then smack your kid again to let him know that you mean business. This usually shuts them up because they see that the amount of crying is proportional to the amount of beatings
    Darn-tootin!!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Good point. The thread title puts a certain spin on how we read the article, i.e. that the kids themselves are 'unruly'. However, if it's a case that the parents genuinely believe they are not capable of raising their children (through no fault of the kids themselves), then finding a home capable of supporting and nurturing them is not a bad idea.

An Fhile: You are right. The kids will have some value to society, so the parents are doing the right thing by trying to preserve that value. They are not capable of doing it by themselves.

Let's face it, they are never going to be at the top of the food chain, but the world needs cannon fodder too.

How to deal with unruly kids?

    Hammers.

    Hammers can solve any problem

    Hammers.

    Hammers can solve any problem

I remember at a horse show after a woman had fallen off cross country and broken her leg, she was lying on the ground with the paramedics. Her husband had just arrived there along with their son (he was about 5 or something, i dunno). anyway, he spots a set of tools over by one of the marker stakes in the ground and runs over and gets the hammer, runs back with the hammer towards his mum shouting "I'll FIX IT!"

everyone got a bit of a fright, then we all laughed (at how stupid kids are of course), any way, seems he had just gotten a set of those plastic tools recently and was still in that faze....:D

now, how would you deal with a misbehaved child like this???...I mean running towards ur mum with a hammer shouting "I'LL FIX IT", kids....fair violent

    Yeah, I agree.

Well, it might be a more sane situation than the present one where a state finds it difficult to take children into care because of the parent's rights. Adoption or fostering mightn't appeal to the worst of the worst but abandoning their kids might speak to their callous nature.
