Jaysus, I wouldn't like to meet you down a dark alley.

l wouldn't mind meeting Mairt ( forget about the dark alley ) l would shake his hand and tell him he is a good person , and to go on being who he is.
You made an issue out of l've also killed and ignored the previous sentence l'm not slagging you , l was the same a long time ago.
Maybe think about the post you are answering a bit more.:)

Personally that sort of thing would not bother me much at all might have to do with growing up on a farm. Some of the animals were as good as pets but they would still end up on your plate some day. As for things like the shooting these things have been going on for as long as humans have been around and will continue to happen.

Out of sight, out of mind for me.

Exactly the way it is for me. Couldn't care less if X people die in *insert tragic event here* in X country. But when I see something awful happening infront of me I feel bad/angry/sad/happy depending on the situation.

I'm more desensitised to human suffering than animal suffering.

I don't take any pleasure from stories like the ones the OP mentioned, but I do rather enjoy seeing the animal lovers up in arms.

    Mixed emotions, then.

This is after hours, it is only a bit of nonsensical fun:).
Maybe you should loosen up a little, you will live longer:pac:

Also, I am becoming desensitised down there (in zee pantz, jah!) but I'm technically not a teenager so apparently it's the norm (or so the internet told me).

I'm not getting my 5 a day anymore that's for damn sure!

So to what extent do you feel you're desensitised?
I'm still young and foolish, so I tend to get worked up.

It is pathetic how people can feel more sorry for animals than people. Doesn't stop them wearing leather shoes and eating meat though or taking Pharmecuticals and wearing cosmetics afterall. The reason people feel more sorry for animals is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropomorphism and I think as we move away more generations from the farm we move away from reality.
Grim reading I think. Lets worry about people before we worry about animals. There is enough cruelty to children and women across the world to worry about first.

On the desensitisation issue, I believe its because of horror films and internet forwards. When the internet first came in I remember receiving snuff mpegs like guys getting executed in Arabia and A Russian soldier getting his throat cut and feeling physically ill. Now I wouldn't stay sqeamish for long. I pity the children growing up watching that. It also raises the question how young people are supposed to have normal sexual scripts after watching endless hardcore porn during their development stage. I pity what the next generation of young girls will have to do to keep the sexually deviant young men satisfied.

    pretty decensitised myself...

    the tsunami incident....cool...massive waves...UNREAL!
the earthquakes and landslides in china....gonna be hard to rebuild those roads.
the new orleans floods....ha, served them right.
Wars.... interesting and great material for TV

basically any person that I don't know can die or get mutalated and I wont bat an eyelid...an entire population can be wiped out from some kind of disaster or social unrest...it will be a statistic for me....

but touch a cute fury little animal....and there will be hell to pay

Your probably just young, self centered and have never really felt love for either your fellow human being or anything else for that matter.

I'm not slagging you, I was the same a long time ago.

But age and/or experiences change us. In my case I served during the civil war in Lebanon then I served in Somalia where I volunteered to help in the hospice in Baidoa, Somalia.

After that I got married and had two children, after some time I got pets and learned that you can love your pets just as much as other family members and treat them as such.

    I've also killed.

OP, your not desensitised. You haven't lived enough.

"I've also killed." What sort of statement is that? An irish soldier right. Who did you kill, a fellow irish soldier from cabin fever hiding in the bunker? "I killed a man", like something out of Waynes World.

    "I've also killed"

someone who has killed will never openly admit it....it's something you naturally repress.

Yaaawn **hangover kicks in** I've killed Wabbits, and I've shot at can's
    MexiCANS & AfriCANS :D

Have I really killed, I dunno. But I've been in more than one firefight, as for the rest of your statement. I rarely give something like that a serious reply, this time however I'll make a small exception, your response is offensive to any Irish soldier (ex or serving) and to family member's of Irish soldiers killed in the service of peace.

And this is coming from someone (Walter Mitty military wannabe type) who wanted to try this..

    Bootcamp or Military fitness?????

I have been going to a class in Phoenix park called Boot camp which involves circuit training and have been happy with it. Now I notice that their competitors Military Fitness have opened a class in Lucan. Anyone any experience with them, should I jump ship?

I am looking for a difficult workout so would appreciate if anyone has experience of miltary fitness or both.

    Let me know

    D

Is this the closest you've been to 'difficult'?.

And you think you've earned the right to slag off Irish soldiers, I detest and feel pity for people like you.

Ha ha I don't think doing a fitness class is Walter Mitty. I'm not looking to shoot guns just keep fit. Don't say you've killed if you haven't as its insulting to Irish soldiers and their families.

No I think you'll find that I was laughing at myself and my po faced response to the thread. Funny though you've just given away how sensitive you are by taking my statement as a slight on you.

I'm not getting into a pissing contest with you, tbh I'm not in the mood and I don't think you deserve my time and energies.

Btw, you still training with Sean Cahill in the park?.

Sean's the real thing, slag off Irish soldiers and make mention of Irish soldiers killing other Irish soldiers and he'll give you the workout of a life time.

I'm not discussing anything further with you (not here anyway). So move along.

That must be ruff mate. Way down the line your Daughter will probably at some stage end up in Heaven with God and His Angels and you will be left rotting in Hell.

    Out side looking in.

I had always thought it would be rather large? Big caverns and what not. But I suppose that could be just images from films. Why do you think it is a small place?

We are quite distanced from these things when they are not in real life. There are many bad things that happen and if you are to react to everything you read and watch you would be a complete wreck. Personally, I don't really give a crap about someone who I don't know.

Be honest, have you ever given to a charity?.
