It's not as if there's nothing for the Gardai to do what with crime, especially violent crime soaring, but a friend emailed me today telling me that the Gardai raided all the sex shops in Dublin to seize their porn videos.

    Article here:
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0919/dvd.html

Now correct me if I'm wrong but what the hell in the year 2008 are the Gardai doing seizing porno DVDs from Sex shops? Yes, by all means crack down hard on child porn but adult videos? Seriously what bloody decade are we in?

Since when does the censor determine what fully grown adults can and cannot watch as entertainment? It's embarrassing.

Despite big changes in recent years, let's face it: Ireland is in many ways still a pretty backward country...:(

My friend works in a sex shop. It was raided and the Gardai still do this at least once a year. The problem is that porn DVDs can't get a licence in the first place because the censors refuse to classify them, making them illegal.

By law, anyone who purchases, owns or views a porn DVD/video is also a deemed to be a criminal. WTF year are we in anyway? The social backwardness of this country makes me despair sometimes!

If you're buying it when it's easily downloadable, you're doing something wrong.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

There isn't enough 'real' crime in Ireland to get the gardas the overtime they crave.

I wonder how many were caught in the act.

This type of "crime detection" brings in easy money for the state , the more serious stuff costs money.

I didn't say I wanted to buy porn for myself. I don't need to for a good reason..:D But if others want to, then why not? I thought this country was supposed to have matured and become more liberal and open-minded?

Surely downloading porn from the internet is also a crime? If any film is "unlicenced" ie not seen by the film censor, then it's completely illegal. Under Irish law it is a crime to download porn. The law is an ass.

I was in tesco earlier today and saw some DVD's for sale. Not porn.
I wondered who buys DVD's these days.

I buy my child porn from Tesco, it's slightly cheaper there than in HMV

This is an absolute disgrace. Like has already been said the Irish film industry refuses to give porn a rating so wtf can the shop owners do!?

The corrupt state is quite happy to take VAT though funnily enough from the shops involved. For what? for something they will steal anyway? I say **** our backwards system. Complete and total hypocrites we have.

Some of this unlicensed stuff could contain footage of underage teens posing as adults. Technically speaking it can be classed as underage XXX

If you see a guard wandering around in a few days, with bloodshot eyes and callouses on his hand, you'll know he was on the team.

I thought they were all ****.

Note: I do not think cops are ****. They have treated me quite well in the past.

Gardaí in Dublin have seized unlicensed DVDs with an estimated retail value of up to €400,000.
A total of 7,800 DVDs were recovered following searches of five premises as part of an ongoing operation.
A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
There's no mention of porn there, have I missed something?

The DVDs are unlicencesed as censor thinks they are too graphic. These dvds are licenced and legal everywhere else in Europe and they can be bought from online stores in those countries making a mockery of the censors and gardai's actions.

These are'nt dvds of kids, or underage girls just "Gonzo" Style violent sex films that are legal in USA, UK, most EU.

Porn on dvd has much clearer/better picture quality than watching mpegs and avi's on your PC.

You can only blame the Catholic Church for that :D

One would want to be a hard up idiot to buying from these shops, ie e60 to e70 a vid.

99% of motorists were measured to break the old 30mph speed limit in urban areas
L drivers aren't allowed out on their own either
most Irish computer users , have copied or used pirated software many through casual copying

Used to be the case that you could sell p0rn until the censor classified it , so they've closed that loophole maybe,
