Ok, we know that all this training gives us joy, pains, rage, gloom, analytical skills of an actuarist, spacial awareness of a lynx etc... but little is spoken of that hunger! I'm not looking for nutritional advice or what vitamins or gels will turn me into superman for a few seconds or what best to eat before or after a session... I'd just like to know what are the snacking habits of you lot!

I'm pitching peanut butter and jam on toast for starters, soooo good :D

Peanut Butter & Honey is my favourite. Can't get enough of it, especially on toast!

Pitta bread with Nutella and banana.
    A packet of biscuits.

This video should tell you everything you need to know about diet:

    Liquid bread ftw!:D

    When I'm good
Carrot sticks or celery used to scoop up dollops of humous. Mmmmm.

    When I'm bad
Like Krusty_Clown - Biscuits. Specifically, Fox's golden crunch creams.
I have a problem with moderation and I usually can't stop until I've finished the packet so I try not to even start.

I'm fairly well behaved these days, but if I let myself I could go through biscuits at an alarming rate also :)

Im convinced all biscuits contain copious quantities of crack cocaine.

As others have said you can never just have one or two....its the whole pack or nothing:rolleyes::D

I have a real weakness for custard brioche which Aldi do. It's about 1,000 cals per pack but it's hard not to eat the entire thing after a good session.

After a particularly long run, I like to calculate the equivalent number of pints of Carlsberg/Newcastle Brown Ale/Guinness I could drink based on the number of calories burnt. I don't drink 'em mind (or at least not all of them), I just find the numbers motivational. :)

My big weakness is Jellies! especially the natural confectionery company ones. Could eat a full bag of them without blinking and still want more.:(

:D I must do this too. Suppose we can store up all the missed pints and then consume them in the days after the big day. I'm going on holidays the day after the marathon, so I certainly plan to!

Have no big weakness at the moment, but am certainly snacking on more chocolate, jellies etc. than I normally would. Am just figuring it will make no difference given the training load at the moment.

However, I am noticing the hunger pangs a lot this week, particularly in the mornings. Despite a carb heavy breakfast of porridge and bagel, I'm still hungry a few hours later.

My big thing is savory rather than sweet so lots of crisps and peanuts (esp the paprika coated ones they do in Aldi). You burn up so many calories training that some junk food won't do you any harm is my theory...

That's fine when you're a skinny git like you..... I've been craving egg mayo recently after exercise....

Egg Mayo????!!!!! WTF! I am a sweet tooth but I do understand the savoury sorts, however I have never heard such fat cravings after exercise!

As for the peanut butter and honey on toast, had a few of those last night. Pretty good. Have to get the Kelkin crunchy peanut butter though and try it again. My other half threw smooth peanut butter into the shopping without me noticing

I've been having stomach issues for pretty much the last 5 months with it significantly worse the last month. Starts high up in abdomen and down thru my stomach. Have been to doc twice about it. No sign of ulcer bacteria but haemoglobin a bit low. So im on tabs for the nausea. Not able drink water, it rips my stomach to bits and now im just scared of it. Runs are fuelled with nrg drinks and I rely on them now for when thirsty on rest days also. The really wierd thing is my energy levels haven't been affected at all. I haven't had to miss any runs because of it, and the running seems to actually stop/mask the pain. So I have been going through a longish period of reduced appetite. Diet at the moment is:
Breakfast - scone and peppermint tea
lunch - cup of soup, soya yogurt, tea, maybe a slice of bread
snack - banana or go-ahead slice
dinner - beans on toast of scrambled eggs on toast
    snack - tea

can't stomach the thought of eating anything else, let alone actually eating it. Without bread Id be screwed, but saying that I ate a slice of bread 45min after my run on Wed evening and I nearly threw up. Cravings are not an issue for me either.

My times have actually even improved over the last couple of weeks. Anyone want to offer some pearls of wisdom to all of this?????

May I recommend the Avoca peanut butter. (Either smooth or crunchy)
Only contains Peanuts (and a little salt).

Once you've had that you won't ever eat the other rubbish.
It's not cheap but boy is it good.

Interesting, better that Kelkin crunch?? Have you compared?

I was re-introduced to peanut butter about 18 months ago via the avoca product. Prior to that I hadn't had peanut butter since I was a kid. Having no reference point I thought all peanut butter tasted like this one.

When the jar ran out I got another jar (can't remember which product) from the shops and nearly threw up. Since then I've tried a couple of other shop products and remain unimpressed.

I couldn't, with hand on heart, say that I have tried the Kelkin crunch but, now that you've put me on the spot, I will get a jar of Kelkin crunch tonight and let you know.

    Regards,

    Liam

Its pretty good, so let me know what you think! Needed a couple of slices of toast with P&J, 2 bowls of cereal, a breakfast smoothie, tea, 2 slices of cheese to wash down the long run this morning!

Tahini /peanut butter /bannna on toast is a good combo .

High in calories but i have a high metabolism so weight gain is not a problem for me ;)

I stocked up on Avoca peanut butter (crunchy) today and also got a jar of Kelkin (aso crunchy). My wife and I both did blind tests on both products and both of us preferred the Avoca product and found the Kelkin product saltier. Having said that, the Kelkin was very good and there wasn't much in the difference.

The Kelkin did have Palm Oil added. When I looked this up I discovered this is to prevent the oil separating (which is easy to mix back in, by the way). The drawback to the palm oil is that it is high in saturated fats. The kelkin product also contains about 30% more salt than the Avoca product.

Anyway, I stand by my earlier assertion that the Avoca product is the best out there (athough it's quite a bit more expensive). However, now that I am familiar with Kelkin, I would use this in a pinch.

    Regards,

    Liam

Cool, thanks Liam. I'll try he Avoca for sure next week. How closely do you watch your diet? How much do you train? I used to row so I come from the 'eat as much as you can' school! That said I am making more conscious decisions about saturated fat... habits are as hard to make as they are to break

How much do I train? Not enough, that's for sure. I'm starting up again after a 3 week break. When I'm not being lazy and taking breaks, my average week would probably contain about 12 training hours.

I'm very conscious of the saturated fat content of foods (and conscious of my diet in general) because I discovered a couple of years ago that I have inherited a tendency towards high cholesterol levels and there is a family history of heart disease. That (and a certain amount of vanity, of course) is largely the reason that I started watching my weight and keeping fit.

And, yes, it's all about habits.

    Regards,

    Liam

4 or 5?! Fear not for there are those of us out there who open a family sized pack of bourbon creams and dunk the lot into a cup of tea ;)

its those very biscuits i do the very same with ;-) i really do ahve an issue with dinner size though. i dont feel full unless i eat a faitr amount but ive started restricting it to having veg as the main bulk of the meal. there was a time when half the plate would have been meat

The thought of peanut butter (crunchy, of course!) and banana on a lightly toasted sesame bagel or two gets me to the end of my runs on most occasions mmmmmmmmm
