"Karl pilkington has a head like a fcuking orange."

    He's a legend simple as....

He's like Ali G. Seemed hilarious at the time, but ran his course and been passed by funnier people.

I subscribe to his podcasts and enjoy them an awful lot. Very hard at times to stifle the laughs while listening on the bus to work :)
Prefer the voice podcasts rather than the video ones though.

I find him very funny. But i think Stephen Merchants charactor in extras was much funnier then Gervias's Charactor. I think both of them are excellent comedy writers and they work very well together.
I think i prefer Extras to the Office purely for the Merchant charactor

    Comic Genius.

I think he's the stuff of comic genius myself. 'Awkward humour' is horrifically underrated. He's well able to poke fun at himself too.

    That's so true.
Remember the Oggmonster scene in the office- Merchant and himself trading insults about their physical appearance, Merchant calling him fat and pudgy IIRC (admittedly Merchant stole the scene talking about his own bulbous eyes though...LOL).

So even though it's probably fashionable at this stage to say he's a prick, IMO he's still a comic genius, always has been.

He comes across as decent, grounded, thoughtful and very witty in any of his interviews i've heard.

Ricky's brand of sardonic humour is classic, but what akes it for me is the podcasts with himself & Steve Merchant with the bald headed head like a ****ing orange manc twat that is Karl Pilkington LOL :D

Roll on the new series of BodCasts - woohooooo!!!!!!

I love his blog posts recently about London gossip columnists & what they wrote about him & his clarification that he called someone a C-You-Next-Tuesday & not 'stupid' as the columnist wrote LOL

Ricky comes across as super grounded & is very VERY quick to put the media in their place, which is why they love to hate him & he loves to hate them too & use them where & how he sees fit ...... he's a genius when it comes to playing them at their own game.

THIS IS TAKEN FROM RICKY'S BLOG:

    Hello. Look at this ****...

    Is Ricky counting the calories?
All that time in Hollywood appears to have got Ricky Gervais flustered about his weight. On Tuesday evening, a mole spotted the star of The Office dining in The Ivy restaurant in central London, where he seemed to be adhering to a strict new dieting regime.
"Ricky was with his partner and a couple of friends and kept making these noises and telling them how jealous he was whenever their food arrived," I'm told.
"Meanwhile, he just picked away at a bit of salad. Then he had a fruit salad for pudding. I can only assume that he ordered involuntarily, as he spent most of his time eating it while gawping at my frozen berries in chocolate sauce."
    pandora@independent.co.uk

That was in The Independent. THE INDEPENDENT! It's a column by Henry Deedes.

OK, so yes, I was at The Ivy with my partner and a couple of friends on Tuesday evening. And yes, I did have a fruit salad.

So am I flustered about my weight?

    Not really.

Is it all the time I've been spending in Hollywood that has made me flustered about my weight?

Well no, I told you, I'm not flustered about my weight.

So am I adhering to a strict new dieting regime?

Well I'll let you be the judge.

Before I ate my fruit salad I had, as a starter, deep-fried scampi. I followed that with a Thai green curry. With rice. And bread (there was some delicious creamy coconut sauce left that needed soaking up).

Then I had my fruit salad. With ice cream, by the way.

What sort of sad **** watches someone eat a meal and then phones in selected highlights to a newspaper?

I'll tell you. The **** that was sitting next to our table who kept trying to strike up conversations with us about the food.

I'd say her name, but I don't know it. She knows mine of course. I'm on the telly. So she mentioned it when she phoned in the hot scoop to the press. It wouldn't have been such an important story if she had just called and said, "Hi Henry, it's your cunty friend. I'm at The Ivy and someone, with someone else and a couple of friends, is eating fruit. Thought you could mention it it your Pandora's Box column."

I love the bit when the nosey old bitch says, "I can only assume he ordered involuntarily." What sort of weird, unwanted pudding Tourette's is that? And wasn't she listening at that point? Ooooohhh! Call yourself a supergrass? Concentrate. Henry needs info.

I don't mind if The Independent know everything I've ever eaten.

But don't say things like I must be trying to lose weight because of Hollywood. It's not true. If you have trouble filling the newspaper, use a bigger font. Print a poem. Leave a space. Ask me. I'll tell you what I've eaten that day.

The Office alone makes him, in my eyes, a legend.

For ever giving the American Office the thumbs up but....he loses two legend points.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,752 ✭✭✭pablomakaveli

I liked the office and extras but he just annoys me now.

what really turned me against him was when he did that simpsons episode. sky one hyped it up to their usual OTT standards and made it look like it would be the best episode ever.

it was really crap. i think his forays into american tv and films just doesnt work.

    Comic Genius.
The office was brilliant, his 2 stand ups i saw were excellent. Not too pushed on Extras, but his humour/aquard comedy is very funny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,822 ✭✭✭ShooterSF

Loved office and extras but I thik his stand up is at times even better. The creationism skit and the humpty dumpty one had me in tears.

    genius.

    Same as that.

Have fallen asleep during his stand-up stuff.

But his programmes are worth the watch, though not quite as amazing as they're made out to be. Some magic moments, but not always outstanding.

Really? The other way round for me. Well, I've only seen "fame" though.

On that note, anyone think the US office translated well? I don't! It's so annoying that the Yanks won't take the time to appreciate british humour, even though we appreciate their "humor". Spoonfed much?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Aodan83

He's good, but i wouldn't say he was a comic genius. Wouldn't say he was an annoying tit either, just look at Alan Carr. I think one of the main reasons people think hes an annoying tit is coz of the office. Everyone thinks David Brent was an asshole. That was his name, right? Extras is good though.

    Have to say both!

Funny, but when watching the extras on politics you'd have to wonder is he an annoying assh*le off stage. The abuse he gives to his poor struggling comic friend has to be seen to be believed. And as for poor Carl.......

Did anyone see his interview with Larry David. He was complaining about people talking to him in street and sycophantically asks Larry does he agree and Larry says no I love when people appreciate my comedy and tell me. Really took the wind out of the lil pr$cks sails. I have to wonder whether he is the monkey and steve merchant is the organ grinder.

Office was amazing when it first came out and we got closure from the Xmas episode. Extras is understated genius especially from use of celebrities. American office is fantastic, has outgrown its roots and forged its own identity.
