I for one thought that was quite good, any opinions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,882 ✭✭✭pa990

i thought it was good, the 30 min flew by. The programme was very fast paced, hopping between locations and situations.

I'd prefer if it was slightly slower paced, and showed more of each situation, and possibly make it 45-60 min long

The issue of walterish behaviour is always one that is likely to come up on a forum like this, and it's tough to moderate. Where a poster makes false claims about being a member of any particular organisation, this is likely to result in a ban as a breach of forum charter. The best approach to people prating knowingly about stuff they don't know a thing about is for other posters to challenge this clearly in response - as long as it is done civilly, this is entirely within the spirit of the forum.
The next time I hear someone mention "walterish" behaviour at work i'll know he/she has been on here. Is there a masonic type signal we should use?;)

On a slightly more serious topic (only slightly, though), a few of the posters on this forum are giving the impression of having first-hand knowledge of a particular service. Some appear to have an encyclopedic knowledge of every service. I trust most people to understand that the vast majority of posts here are individual points of view. However, some people will take "walterisms" as fact.
While walters might be enthusiastic, they must remember that while it's often no more than a hobby for them, it's a career for some of us. Our managers monitor these sites closely and it won't do us any good to be associated with Tackleberry types who give the impression that all cops here are obsessed with sig-glock-mp56.8twin-cam-tazers and we're all lockemupandthrowawaythekey barstool solicitors.

DW, this issue came up in my force some time back and the internal advice was that if you're going to post on job related forums you should disassociate your posts from those of your force. Hence why you see a lot of people on UK police forums with signatures that read "my views not those of my force" etc.

Ultimately I never profess to speak for my force, or the police in general. I only ever speak from personal experience, so don't see the problem. I guess the problem only arises when anti-police types take your comments out of context.

Blame Metman for this extremely usable phrase.

I once changed the Wiki page about the Gardai too say we were superpowered bio-engineered ultimate police officers who have to swim to America wearing a 1 ton pack and wrestle a shark during training and it stayed like that for over a day :D

Hey Karlito , nobody was ever going to believe the bit about the shark.

Lads, this forum is hopping tonight and I'd love to stay and chew the fat with all you walters but I've got a 70,000ft halo dive at 2am, and the heat in Iraq when the sun comes up in the morning will be stifling, so I need to get some sleep and get hydrated.

Wish me luck, I'm going in.

Clada you're full of sh1t. Everyone knows you're not trained to halo higher than 60,000 feet and are bound for Derka-Derka-stan.

    Good luck! :D

How come they didn't have blues and twos in that green Ford in Cork?

Could have made the difference in catching up with the car they wanted to pull over. Also be safer pulling the car over than having to run up to the window and ID yourself.

    Good work by rte..

They're not allowed blues and twos

They had blues on that jeep in the airport that was doing the checkpoint.

Think they should be allowed to if they're doing traffic stops.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭maglite

ROAD TRAFFIC (LIGHTING OF VEHICLES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1996 wont allow blue on a customs patrol viechel.

They could have flashing amber thou. The one on the airport is on "private property" so not on a road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭Fyr.Fytr

Exactly maglite, that was a balls up by the former head of airport customs. Now the vehicle is just used as the "ramp car" basically doing patrols of the airport, checking light aircraft and the likes. Very seldom leaves airport property

Granted they should have them for traffic stops and the likes

Meant to watch this but was in bed recovering from weekend.

    Anyone know when its repeated?

Yea seems a bit daft for the work they do not to have them on. What has blue/ green/ yellow/ red lights doesn't seem to be enforced.

Good program, can you access any of it via rte archive?

Unfortunately not. They don't have it listed as one of their programs yet either.I missed it to(yes,I know, after all the hype). Would anyone be able to put it on youtube or something?

Its a strange setup but even here Customs don't get to use blue lights.

Kilo and Lima units (serious organised counter-smuggling HM Customs units) are not authorised to use blue lights but at the same time are trained by police to drive as advanced drivers. So what happens is Customs units pursue bandit cars without authorisation of local police, which often winds up in a bizarre situation wherein you have customs units getting pursued by police intercept units.

For those seriously interested in Customs. Do a search on Amazon for Kilo 17. Interesting account of an Officer working on Customs based in Central London.

Much like On the beat is not well recieved by gadai for its inaccurcies, kilo 17 and lima 3 are not recived by customs officers, for its inaccrucies.

Metman i'm proberably wrong on this but i do think there is a small part of the rta in the uk which states customs may use blues when investigating serious crime. Ive hear this somewhere and cant remember where, will go looking tho.

In the mean time can you confim or deny this please
