    Pffffff, stand aside plebians.

Todays activation is more for publicity than anything. All they're doing is launching launching a few proton beams in a single pattern to show off the technology. There are several weeks of calibration before they begin collisions, which will in theory cause the mini black holes. People are getting incredibly uptight about recreating a phenomenon that happens in our atmosphere daily anyway. It'll be about a month before "the end of the world" since it's hard to set up a machine with a tunnel diameter wider than Christchurch cathedral and a circumference larger than the boundry of Dublin city to crash two sub-atomic particles together at 99.999991% of the speed of light.

Shiva, I'll bet you your WA M4 that we won't die. Let's see how committed to this theory you are, you being named after a god of destruction after all...

Anyone know how i can hook up mirc in college? It blocks like 99% of the web and wont let me download xchat and ****.

Maybe if i just bring it in on a disc or usb key?

Lectures are so boring, i just spent the last hour "supervising people". doing project management and id to walk around like an arsehole making sure people did their work.

What theory ? What are you talking about ? The LHC ?

Nah...I was talking about what's going to happen at 11.30 when Irene gets back and I haven't cleaned the kitchen. Far more threatening than any physics experiment.

Even if you get it installed, the college firewall probably has the necessary ports blocked.

    probably, gay college

However i went down to the students union to drop in my gunbag to some girl down there i know to keep locked up, and she said two lads came in before me asking for forms to setup an airsoft club in college, sounds interesting :)

much like her face when she said " Dan whats that big tube?"

" Thats a grenade launcher chicken"

If google isn't blocked, you can use the old google translate trick to open many websites. Simple pop the url you want to open into Google Translate and tell it to convert from English to English. The firewall thinks you are opening google, and nothing more.

You could then use this to open the web based IRC chat clients...in theory.

I supposedly have a 6mb line, but i get 10mb download speeds with NTL, so i can't say much about them...

rabbit i think your just going to join the rest of us, having random disconnects and ****e speeds.

Its a problem across the board at the moment, since the updates general pings, speeds and disconnections from everyone has been an absolute disgrace, ireland is pathetic when it comes to broadband.

And if you arnt experiencing problems, your not abusing the power of the internet enough.

I've been recording disconnections from my router logs to send to eircom, to have them either sort me out nicely or im cancelling my contract and moving ( this poor service is in breach of the contract i signed and can get me out)

So far this week. 21 disconnects....and its Wednesday....good thing i dont play wow or warcraft 3 anymore.

20 minutes of waiting while I ate my breakfast
    ooh, people are looking excited
wait, they're filming some big pipe thing
    "poof"
    a little light flashes

gizmo turns in confusion to her mother
"how long does it take for a black hole to open?"

I'm having the occasional drop for a couple of seconds. Its not a big deal as it hasnt happened while I was gaming, I thought it was the router but now I'm thinking otherwise. We're supposed to be 3MB:rolleyes:

Wont matter its the IRC port that is blocked on the firewalls. I know, I block it on mine :)

Oh, the last 18 months has been hell (outages every 2 days and up to 40% packet loss). But, they just installed all new equipment in the area...cables, exchanges, repeaters etc. Finally, I have 20mb connection with zero packet loss and under 90ms response times. And best of all, they moved up the upgrade schedule for this area due to the 78 calls I made to their helpdesk. :D Well, so their Team Lead told me anyway.

Oh, and Sod'o swords, your 6mb connection was auto-upgraded to a 10mb line for free a few weeks ago. The 6mb connection got a free upgrade to 20mb.

If anyone hasn't gotten the upgrade yet, you can request it from thie site shown below and it will be done within 24 hours. They have now stopped the auto-upgrades due to some legal issues.

I try my best man :) I dont just do it for fun, its to protect the network, IRC is not the safest protocol out their.

Were quite relaxed about other stuff, dont block anything except IM clients.

Snooze fest lectures then, college networks are allways full of back doors, get a tool to sweep the IP ranges and look for servers with ISA or Squid installed, their the proxy's. Large opperations usually have seperate proxys for Joe Soap and IT so try diff ones.

Just reading bout this Warhammer online game, very tempting indeed, although have to say Company of heros isnt half bad now that i tried a game, a bit slow and "mass an army then attack" but it has some potential for fun i guess.
