Archive unused zip files to new share whilst maintaining full paths & user rights?

    I'm looking for a way to automate the move of a heap of zip files that haven't been used in a long time (>5 years) whilst keeping their full path structure and users rights in the new location so that users are able to find them again if they actually need to.

    Basically, I have a network drive with data on it from the last several years and suspect that a significant portion of it is no longer required.

    we had considered archiving to tape, but the prospect of (potentially) restoring hundreds of files makes it a no go.

    so we've set aside some room for the files on a NAS and want to move all the files onto that, but we're struggling to find something that will do the job without making a mess of it.

    is anyone aware of an application that could do this?

    if you don't mind them being on a different drive but at the same relative path you could use something like
    Robocopy D:\folder X:\folder *.zip /sec /move and other options to check

    read up and test before you use !

    do you know if there is a way to make it only move folders not accessed in the last 5 years?

    there's lots of stuff there that we don't want to move.

    /MAXAGE:n
    MAXimum file AGE - exclude files older than n days/date.
    /MINAGE:n
    MINimum file AGE - exclude files newer than n days/date.
    (If n < 1900 then n = no of days, else n = YYYYMMDD date).

    if you want the access date rather than age you may have do do a dir based on the last access but that would be a little trickier and I think backups and av might affect the time.

    EDIT: thanks for that link, it turns out there's another link on that page to a complete list of copy switches which includes the following in addition to the ones you mentioned:
    /MAXAGE:n :: MAXimum file AGE - exclude files older than n days/date.
    /MINAGE:n :: MINimum file AGE - exclude files newer than n days/date.
    /MAXLAD:n :: MAXimum Last Access Date - exclude files unused since n.
    /MINLAD:n :: MINimum Last Access Date - exclude files used since n.
    (If n < 1900 then n = n days, else n = YYYYMMDD date).

    exactly what I'm after. now I just have to figure out everything else and make it work. :)
