Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The point of the game is pretty simple. In a PM to me, answer each of the 10 questions below.

Try to think of the most popular answer

If you need to comment or clarify a question then do it in thread please. And if you could reply once you've sent a PM it'd keep the thread alive Thanks!

    Write your answers like this...

Do not repeat the questions, no full-stops at the end of answers, no spaces between lines, no comments, no fancy list coding. Thanks.

    JUST LIKE THIS:

    1. Dr Maria O' Brien
    2. Kathy Wells
    3. XXXX

Those who don't reply like this will be ignored.

The game will end when we have 40 entrants or after 5 days, whichever comes first.

Please, no full-stops after the answers and put a space in between the 1. and the answer ok?

I guess it depends on how old you are :D

Remember there's no harm in using the 'net to search for answers. The goal is to find the most popular answer and not to test subject knowledge.

    1. Java 16
    1. C/C++ 13
    1. Basic 2
    1. Cobol 2
    1. html 1
    1. Hugo 1
    1. Pascal 1
    1. SQL 1
    1. VB 1
    1. linux 1
    1. Binary 1

Come on people. You have to name the most popular answer, not just any answer... hugo?

    2. byte 15
    2. Megabyte 10
    2. gigabyte 9
    2. Bit 2
    2. kilobyte 2
    2. Ram 1
    2. Yobibit 1

Before anyone says it, I know that all these are multiplies of bits but I didn't group them together as there would have been no real point in doing so.

    3. Internet Explorer 19
    3. Firefox 16
    3. explorer 3
    3. Google 1
    3. MSN 1

Hmmm, I wonder who surfs using MSN? :)

    4. Dell 34
    4. HP 2
    4. IBM 1
    4. Microsoft 1
    4. Sony 1
    4. Toshiba 1

    For info....Microsoft don't actually make computers :)

    5. floppy 35
    5. Iomega Bernoulli disks 1
    5. Microfiche 1
    5. Minidisc 1
    5. Tape 1
    5. Vinyl 1

    Obvious answer here...

    6. bill gates 26
    6. John Backus 3
    6. Alan Turing 2
    6. Amstrad 1
    6. Bill Joy 1
    6. Clive Sinclair 1
    6. Gordon Moore 1
    6. Howard Aiken 1
    6. James Gosling 1
    6. Martin Richards 1
    6. Steve Jobs 1
    6. Tim Berners-Lee 1

Bill wins out over all of people that some would consider 'real' heros of the age of the computer.

    7. playstation/PS2/PS3 25
    7. xbox/360 8
    7. Nintendo/Wii 6
    7. Space Invaders 1

I grouped answers together here or else it would have been impossible to score properly. I pity the kid with just Space Invaders though....

    8. Solitaire 30
    8. Minesweeper 5
    8. hearts 2
    8. Jezzball 1
    8. Pinball 1
    8. reversi 1

    9. world of warcraft 27
    9. Warhammer 3
    9. Dungeons & Dragons* 1
    9. final fantasy 1
    9. Inclomplete Union 1
    9. KAL online 1
    9. Lord of the Rings 2
    9. Mazewar 1
    9. Runescape 1
    9. Second Life 1
    9. Tomb Raider 1

    10. Ctrl 10
    10. Esc 9
    10. WinKey 6
    10. Delete 3
    10. @ 2
    10. enter 2
    10. Alt 1
    10. Caps Lock 1
    10. F1 1
    10. f5 1
    10. Home 1
    10. Pause/Break 1
    10. Scroll Lock 1
    10. Slash 1

Ahhh, I was hoping I'd get a few of these answers. It seems that some of the younger members don't remember typewriters all that well. 'Enter', 'Caps lock' '@' and 'delete/backspace' are all keys found on typewriters.

Well I suppose that someone always has to come last !

Your answers weren't incorrect but some were a little too obscure to get many points, for example:

    1. SQL
    4. Sony
    5. Microfiche
    6. Howard Aiken
    8. Hearts
    9. Mazewar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭Spike440

I would have got away with it too if it wasn't for that pesky Steve Jobs.
