Are cutaway dreadnoughts ever so slightly bigger??

I have a cutaway dreadnought guitar. I noticed a friend of mine has a dreadnought which is slightly narrower...maybe an inch in all.

Is this because a the area that is removed by the cutaway is made up for in the width?? Or is it just the two particular guitars in question...

If anyone has a dreadnought that doesn't have a cutaway, could ye maybe measure the width for me and give me as accurate a measurement as possible?? Maybe in MM or something...cheers...

Please see attached picture that illustrates exactly what I'm talking about...

    Thanks in advance :D

There are many different styles and sizes for acoustics, different sized dreadnoughts also.

Usually no. But it depends on the luthier.

Unless they are both the exact same model in dreadnought and cutaway versions, then size differences across brands and ranges of brand models is to be expected.

you see i'm wondering because i find acoustics awkward. i've played the electric for years and have been getting into the acoustic the last 6 months. i'm so used to the nice non-obtrusive width of the electric that i'm thinking the less width in a guitar the better for me...so, would a guitar without a cutaway be generally less in width than one with a cutaway or does it make no difference at all?? every one i've seen with a cutaway seems to be that bit wider...

Look for a grand concert style guitar, they're usually easier to manage. Although not as loud as dreadnoughts generally.
