2004 VW GOLF - Leak?

    Hi All,

My brother has a 2004 VW Golf 5 door and lately there seems to be dampness on the back seat (The part you sit on, not the backrest) I took a look in the boot and there seemed to be some kind of condensation under the carpet where the spare wheel is.

The dampness on the back seat seems to be confined just to the middle, the sides seem ok. In the last few days theres a noticeable damp smell in the car as well. And this problem has been here before the recent flooding.

Has anyone come across this problem before and how would one go about sorting it.
    Thanks in advance.

Is the rear wash wipe water spraying, the hose that runs to the jet can disconnect or burst, dumping water in the back of the car, but not sure how it would find its way to the seat...
