Both of my parents got married in Rome. In fact they have the signed document from Pope Paul VI hanging on the wall in their bedroom. My mother is a very Catholic person (her upbringing) and we don't see eye to eye on a lot of issues. A lot of people do find it financially less expensive to get married abroad and as a result less people get married here. Only filmed 3 weddings last year. The boss I am with filmed 20 weddings annually only five years ago, there is a decline no doubt about it. Marriage is not for everyone and I think Wednesday Addams sums it up perfectly.

A very good friend of mine got married in Rome last year, he's in no way religious nor his Mrs....
    One reason...
    Money...
It was cheaper for him to have an italian wedding in the Capital of Italy than have a wedding in a bog standard church and hotel in ireland.

Just found the thread and posted a response Ponster. Not a big deal really as it is only been 7 months since the previous post. Read threads were there had been several years between replies. :)

I think people who choose to get married in Rome must be extremely strong Catholics with presumably right-wing religious beliefs given the close proximity of the Pope.

    It's a fair assumption that such people are probably anti-contraception, anti-divorce, anti-abortion, anti-homosexual.

Why else would they decide to get married in what effectively is the Pope's backyard?

I was only talking about this the other day. The real reason alot of these people head to Rome to get married is because they are too scabby to get married in Ireland...which is probably fair enough, given the exorbitant price of weddings these days.

It's better than having a two million euro wedding in a castle and selling the photos to a bunch of journalists...

I wonder are the people complaining about the old thread being dragged up the same people who complain when a new thread is started on the same topic?
