But her plight, real or not, will help highlight Cervical cancer and that it's a cancer that affects young women as well as old. I booked myself in for a smear this week solely because of Jade's news. It reminded me I am due a test around now.

I hope this isnt a lie or publicity stunt. No one should wish cancer on themselves.

If true i wish her a speedy recovery

I think Jade and her mother Jackie needs to step away from the limelight for a long while, live in the country with her kids and mother and dump cheating Jack Tweedy.

How sad am i that i know their names

So because she made a few stupid comments and she likes to be in the spotlight she deserves cancer? Well aren't you Mr Sunshine!

She's an idiot, but nobody deserves cancer.

Christina Applegate had a double mastectomy recently. I admit to having a lot more sympathy for her - at least she has contributed something to entertainment.

The greatest warning a girl can have too many sexual partners increases the risk of HPV Human papilloma Virus which leads to genital warts and some strains of it can lead to cervical cancer. HPV of which there are 100+ different strains, the new vacine only protects women against about 9 of these viruses this is why smear tests are a must. You can carry the virus in your system for a long time without any symtoms or you can get genital warts inside (so you wont know) or outside the genital area. Please take heed girls, use condoms, have regular smear tests and try to be with as few sexual partners as possible. Condoms also dont fully protect against HPV, if your man has it or warts he can pass it on to you by touching the skin around your genitals with his genitals i.e. the condom only covers the penis not the skin around it. There needs tobe a massive education on this in Ireland people seriously have'nt a clue. Google HPV asap!:D

You shouldn't live your life through "celebrities" to this extent tbh.

People shouldn't live their lives through celebrities but if Jade Goody can at least do this much with her miserable life then that's brilliant!

No, the vaccine approved in Ireland and the UK only provides proven protection against 2 strains (HPV 16 and HPV 18, that cause 90% of cases of cervical cancer) and may (or may not) provide cross-protection against HPV 31 and HPV 45. The vaccine produced by Merck and approved in most other countries provides proven protection agains 4 strains, HPV 16 and HPV 18, and two strains that cause most cases of genital warts (HPV 6 and HPV 11). It may (or may not) also provide cross-protection against other strains.

This much is correct :) Sexual education in Ireland needs to be vastly improved. The idea that a couple of hours worth of a talk about 'developing bodies and puberty' at the age of 12 is enough is a ridiculous notion.

When Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer a lot of women went to get checked. If Jade having cancer means more women will go for smear tests it's a good thing. They're not living their lives through celebrities but sometimes it's a kick up the arse and gets you thinking. If a positive can come out of this because they're in the public eye then that's good.

So Christina is an actress and that entitles her to more sympathy? I feel very sorry for both of them and for anyone who has cancer.

No, of course, it is good when more women become aware of these things I just think it would be even better if we didn't have to rely on "celebs" to remind us of them.

I know, I know, we don't live in an ideal world. But I hate the thought that someone mightn't bother with all these required checks because no "celeb" hppened to recently suffer from an ailment.

Makes me want to go out and donate blood. It hasn't been in the tabloids lately but it's something that should be done.

I can't believe anybody is arguing the point on this one. The way I see it is that if any famous person, or non famous for that matter, increases the profile of a good cause well then that's a plus.

I can't believe anybody would not think of things like smears and breast checks unless "celebrities" become inflicted.

Smear tests are hot right now.

But it does no harm to be reminded, whatever which way.

I certainly don't live my life through celebrities but it made me think of when the last time I had a smear and that I should have one around now.

If it wasn't Jade's plight, I'm sure something about the cervical cancer vaccine would have triggered the notion to go get a smear done.

And so what either way if it highlights the cancer!

    Sorry.

I should have said what I really feel. I hope she dies and I never have to look at her ugly mug again. She's not even a celebrity. She's a dirty, whoring, wannabee z-list celebrity who pays papparrazi to take pictures of her.

I have more respect for people on the dole than her. And that ain't much.

Now that is truly horrible. Whether she is a "celeb" or not, i wouldn't wish cancer on anybody. Why do you care if she is famous for nothing. Are you jealous:confused: Maybe you should sign up for the next BB.

Maybe you would like to take a trip with me to St. Luke's and see what cancer does to people. That is just a horrible thing to say.

Maybe she should have thought about Shilpa Shetty's and millions of other ethnic races around the world when she berated her with racist remarks on live television and laughed all the way through. Truly pathetic.

I would not be suprised at all if this was a stunt. It probably is.

Maybe I was a tad harsh and obviously I would not wish cancer upon anybody. I still say it's a stunt and that's why I said what I said.

You said 'i hope she dies'.

    Maybe you should grow up?

IMO, the whole thing was blown out of proportion by the media and you fell for it. Wow, she said something that she didn't understand herself (she's not the most clever person*) but that does not make her racist and doesn't give you the right to say that she deserves cancer. That is just sick tbh.

    *may be an understatement.

I'd be pretty sure everyone over the age of 40 or so in this country have said something "racist" through ignorance at some point in their lives. Do they all deserve cancer too?
