Some are, some aren't. I believe you can request what you would rather.

    When?
I filled out the form yesterday, and the only choice I was given was:
    Standard Single
    Modern Single
    Modern Shared

Modern refers to accommodation in the New buildings. Shared refers to rooms in the Modern building with two beds, where you share one room with a roommate. Standard refers to accommodation in the old building. Hope that helps.

I've already filled out the form, thanks, but I did go for Modern Single as you say ;)

No first years are in mixed gender apartments. Halls residents who are in second year or higher are given the option. The standard rooms (ie Cunningham House) are in three separate houses, all of which are single-gender.

I've heard some pretty bad reports about that Cunningham House from practically everyone I know who is in Trinity. Initially I had intended on applying to Cunningham due to having the single room(and being cheaper than the Modern Singles) but due to the bad reports, I've decided to apply to share with a friend in the Modern Twin Rooms instead.

What do others think about Cunningham?

Also, does anyone know if most people who apply for Halls get accomodation in Halls?

On the site it said "usually more people apply than get rooms".

I think I might have applied for Cunningham rather than Modern Single by accident...

Any way I can get this changed at this stage??

Just applied. Wonder if it'll hurt my chances that I applied for a modern twin but didn't specify a partner...

Probably shouldn't get your hopes up, they were pretty clear about you not being able to edit it, but I guess the best thing to do would be to ring them up asap and see what they can do.

Then again, maybe it was fate! You could buy something nice with the €1000 you'll save.

That won't hurt your chances anyway.

I'd say they love getting anyone who'll take a double as they can cram them in. I know a good few people who got a double room with a randomer. Worked out well for them as well, except for the one guy who hasn't been seen since.. :p

I'm going for a double as well, although, I know the guy who I'll be staying with.

If I applied for a Single, does that mean I definitely won't get put in a double? 'cause I wouldn't really mind sharing with someone, single is my preference, but getting Halls of any kind is the main priority..

Alright i am fairly confused now. the TCD website doesnt really specify what happens if you are accepted. i applied for a modern single. i am unsure whether this means i have my own room shared in an apartment with other people or whether i am in a one bedroom apartment. sorry i have just heard so many contradicting post's.

ok so what you have applied for, modern single room, consists of your own private bedroom with ensuite within an apartment. these apartments usually consist of 6 people, so you can have 6 single bedrooms or perhaps 2 single bedrooms and 2 double rooms. you have a common kitchen/living room that has all kithcen facilities, table, chairs aswel as a living room area consisting of couch and 2 chairs.

altho you have applied for a single room, there is a small chance you may indeed get a double room where you wil be sharing a room and ensuite but will still have the kicthen/living room area for 6 students.

so you make it clear you will not end up in a 1 bedroom apartment. when you get your offer, as far as im aware the website and accomodation office have both stated that offers will come out on thursday you will know on your offer form that you will get in the post whether you have successfully got a room in Halls and also whether or not it is a single modern or shared modern room.

hope this has clarified it for everyone!

That is for 2nd year and onwards, and it was posted in June. So you're number wouldn't be on it. Infact if you looked at it there are no 08 numbers on the list. (Apologies if you're a 2nd year or older)

The deadline for accepting your first round CAO offer is tomorrow at 5.15pm. You only got your offer a week ago, there is no way Trinity has allocated the rooms yet, let alone recieved all the applications from incoming first years.

As far as I remember you'll be sent a letter with a timetable for freshers week, which would have lectures from your department heads about the general outline of the course and stuff. They'll tell you where your course notice board is and on that you'll see your timetable. Also when you officially register you'll be given a log on password for the college network and you'll be able to see your timetable online.

lists of successful applicants will be made public on Thursday 28th aug, so thats this thursday. They may put a list of student numbers of those who have got a room online on the Halls page. You will also get a letter from Halls in the post either Friday or Monday next. It will include information on accepting you room, what room you in, your apartment number. I'm not sure if it is in the same letter that you will get information from the JCR (its been 3 years since my first Halls application!) or if that will come separately.

The JCR, Junior Common Room, is like a mini SU that run events in Halls for Halls residents. One of the largest events they run is the Orientation Weekend. This is the weekend before Freshers Week (29-3), so kicking off Friday 26th of Sept. Its basically where the JCR put on lots of fun stuff and orientation meetings with wardens etc so that you get the chance to meet lots and lots of people. Great craic and a fantastic way to kick off Freshers Week.

In relation to letters about start of classes etc, from 5.15 tomorrow evening CAO 1st round offers close so Trinity will start admin straight from that, so expect to get a big letter and lots of paper etc from Senior Tutors Office (who run orientation) as well as an info pack of some sort from the BESS office that will include things like the course handbook etc. All lectures start Monday 6th.

oh and also, senior tutors office have updated the orientation website, great way of looking up info on any questions you have!

Just, wondering, did you all get emails saying that they had got your entry? 'cause my friend wasn't sure if hers got through so she rang and they said that we should have gotten one. neither of us got emails and neither of us got offered places so...just wondering

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 55 ✭✭macgowan

Got no email but my number is on that list. That's all that matters.

Thanks very much for that link.

Woohoo, my number is on the list. And so is the number of the guy I asked to share with so it looks like we're both in!

What exactly is the point of releasing this provisional list? Like if they could release a provisional list, they may as well have just told us for sure. Like, there must be a reason for it.

Anyway I don't care because I'm pretty sure I have my place in Halls now. :D:D:D
