Onkyo 515 - CD drive causing horrible distortion in left channel

I just bought an Onkyo 515 off a registered business seller with a high rating on eBay.

Unwrapped the stereo, plugged it in and realised there wasn't a remote control with it.

Then, gradually, more and more distortion started to happen in the left speaker to the point now where music is completely unlistenable. It only seems to affect CD playback. Radio is fine, auxilary devices like iPods are fine.

I swapped the speakers to see if it was a mechnical/electrical problem with them, but it's the CD playback is the problem.

Anyone had any experience of this? Any idea what it is? The unit has a 12 month warranty and I've already emailed the seller about the remote.

That's rather a pain in the hole. Send it back and get a refund I guess? I had a similar experience with brand new speakers from a different site. As far as I'm aware, the seller should at least pay return postage on an exchange.

The guys were sound. They offered to pay for return of the unit and replace it. Got it back, seems to work perfectly. The sound on this yoke is really great. I've waited years for a decent system.
