    hey,

one thing i hate about macs is windows live/msn is so crap on it.
Has anyone tried any of the other IM s/w for macs...ive heard of adium and amsn. Are they any good? Ive googled adium and seems to be a few people reporting thats its slow and buggy.
Is there any other options ...cheers:)

Adium has caused me problems in the past but it works most of the time, looks nice, is really customisable and a pleasant program to work with.

Best choice really and if problems arise, the Adium forums can solve most problems.

+1 on Adium... been using it for years with no problems and I only use it for an MSN account - works perfectly.

using Adium ... pretty much constantly with work ...

    I'm using it on
    Yahoo
    AIM
    MSN
    2 x gmail

very rarely does it crash ... so that'd be a +1 to Adium from me :)

+1 Adium, I used amsn for a while but I had more problems with it then I have ever had with Adium, also adium integrates nicely with growl. I am back on windows at the moment and wouldnt mind a nice multi protocal client of the same quality (trillian is lose).

    Rebranding of GAIM.

    +1 Adium.

Adium is just a modification of Pidgin, no?

Yeah, Adium is awesome. As soon as they allow video calls on MSN accounts it'll be the shiz.

Maybe look at the Meebo plugin for FireFox. It works surprisingly well.

Adium works grand. Just gives some unusual errors for Jabber accounts every now and then, claiming failed authentication when all details are correct, but no complaints bar this.

I'm not sure if its a modification, but I believe it does use Pidgin's open source libpurple library for the multiprotocol support.

Another plus for adium from me, and like has been said already, it integrates perfectly with growl. I do have aMSN also, but i rarely use that.

Yet another +1 for Adium, have been using it for a few years now and never had a problem with it. Even if my Super Smash Bros Melee sound set does freak people out a bit.

I use adium and I like it. I'd probably use ichat if i didn't have msn friends.

Can I ask a question, what is growl for? I've looked it up and still can't understand why i'd use it?

Growl is a cross-system notification agent. So for example, when one of my Adium contacts signs on, I get an overlay in the top right corner of my display that "so and so has signed on". You can configure the notifications location, sounds played etc - It also shows you messages typed, etc if Adium is not active and someone types a message to you. I find it very useful and there are many other apps on Mac OS X that use the Growl notification system, like Skype, Transmission, Cyberduck etc.
