I get things in Polish, Chinese and Mediterranean shops all the time, they're best for spicy sauces, noodles and other stuff. Sometimes it a guesswork to know what's inside the jar but hey, it's still food (hopefully).

Whenever anything even slightly out of the ordinary happens during the day, Pighead feels compelled to start a thread on boards about it. Some would say that's peculiar.

I dont know, those polish shops always make me think of Dr.Moreau's laboratory. Loads of weird shít in jars. Looks like food you'd expect to see in a Sci Fi of some kind.

Are talking about the same thing? I'll be in town later, so if what you are talking about is different to what I'm talking about, I want to try it.

No What colour packet do your come in? Strawberry ginger sounds interesting.
These come in a white tray with clear film over them. They are large heart shaped buscuits. Chocolate on one side and white shelly stuff on the other.

    UHT Milk

Don t get me started on a rant, its disgusting, I had it in France and threw it out and went to get some proper milk from a fridge. If its not in a fridge there is something wrong.
They do a great lard with fried onions spread.
That is just gross and I don t think its very good for your health neither!
grass thats why they re so svelt
I ve seen slim Polish girls but I ve also seen ones with shoulders that rugby players would be proud of, and the small heads that come with!:p Ever watched the olympics during the communist era??
I just don t find that attractive in women. The men are very bulky too, with small heads and funny feature. Give me a French/English guy anyday!
In fact give me western Europeans anyday! Ive never understood what people find so attractive about the eastern ones!
Later on Pighead started to wonder why his brain told him not to go into the Polish shop. Why would the milk taste funny? Their chicks are better looking than our chicks so why wouldn't there cows be?

Im sorry I just find the Polish/Eastern food disgusting. All that slimy stuff in jars, that pink soup! UGGGHHHHHH! Ill stick to my old favourites French and Italian, thank you very much!:D I have tried Eastern European from some of my Lithuanian friends and I found it soooo gross. But I had to try and be polite about it!
Give me good old fashioned western European food any day!

If your open minded there's always going to be something for someone.

Delicje - These are the Jaffa-esque biscuits DesF is waffling about. They are cheap as chips and come in a range of flavours

Fruit Juice - Poles love their juice and you can get some really delicous flavours such as the Tymbark cherry juice

Smoked Ham - You can get a particular type of smoked ham which is cheap and very tastey

Sausages - There is a huge variety of sausages and they are a great in cooking

Lemon Tea - I can never find this in Tesco's or Dunnes so the polish shops are handy for it

Kaiser Buns and Cottage Cheese - Polish cottage cheese is a hell of alot tastier than the type you get here

Almette - Spredable cheese, it's delicous

Sounds good, apart from the lemon tea. That sounds vile. What about the milk? Is it the same as ours or do they import it in from Polando?

I buy my pickles and salami from the local Polish shop. They thought I was Russian for a long time because of the amount of pickled gherkins I bought, (Russians eat them while quaffing vodka), so they were a bit nasty to me. Still took my money though... they have since discovered I am a Dublin lad who is just hooked on the pickles. I have had one offer of marriage and an invitation to a Polish wedding so far.

By the first offer I deduce that Polish wimmen have very bad eyesight.

Polish milk will likely be like regular milk only with extra lard and/or herrings in it, if the rest of the Polish Food aisle in Dunnes is anything to go by.

Don't worry, I'm sure he meant chicks as in birds, and not birds, as in chicks, chicken.

I have never bought grub from a Polish shop, but have gone to the Indian shops quite a few times to buy some stuff, mainly Bombei mix by the 10 kilo load!

Most milk in poland is UHT but you in certain places can get fresh milk. However all the milk in polish shops here is UHT treated. Surprisingly it's not absolutely awful but still it ain't no fresh milk. I've had UHT milk in Belgium and it is foul stuff.

I'm not a fan of herbal tea's but lemon tea is very refreshing. They drink alot of it in the summer because it gets so hot and humid. It's just €2.49 for a pack of 20 pighead. Give it a whirl.

Just a heads-up on the Alpen: It should keep you regular but try to pick up some nice toilet paper and do your arse a favour.

No that is probably their puréed lams liver and kidney soup thickened with blood.

Nice on a cold evening with a glass of Andrews.

[I'm Polish but I'll try to be impartial ;)]
When you're buying milk(mleko) in a Polish shop be carefull not to pick smietana/smietanka instead(cream/buttermilk). They look similar. Best milk is the one with at least 2% of fat.

We have a lot of different kinds of sweets. The ginger, heartshaped ones are called 'Pierniczki'.

You can get several different types of food in jarrs. Best and safest (imho, for a start) to try is 'fasolka po bretonsku' which is beans with pieces of bacon and sausage in tomato sauce.

Polish sausage tastes great when grilled:

Beans with bacon and sausage in tomato sauce goes lovely with diced fried spuds! It really comforts a body on a cold day! And when I was in Warsaw, many years ago, the family I stayed with introduced me to borsch. It is so good.

Delicje - These are the Jaffa-esque biscuits (...)

For me there's no difference between those two.
Only Delicje come in a range of flavours, much better than orange one.

PS someone mentioned pierogi - they are great but best are home-made. The ones you can get in the shop are OK(just).

When I was in Zakopane in Poland, we were given Borsch. Disgusting stuff. Made from beetroot if I remember rightly.

When we were there, we also ate some smoked cheese that was made by the local farmers. It's grand for nibbling, but it's a *really* strong taste.

Any time I've walked into a Polish/Russian shop to have a look and i get that 'Wait a minute hes not Polish! Get out' Stare.

I'm not going to argue with steroid pumping Polish with arms the size of my head.

Tbh , I get that whole time with Polish people its very very odd. The whole time in Krakow/Warsaw when I was holiday, people just stared constantly at me , it became a running joke on holiday , was really weird. I dont look that odd, just tall I and big I suppose.
