I don't care once he plays - He's the true star of the United team for me. We are so much more dangerous with him on.

Normally I look forward to playing newcastle because generally they provide us with our biggest win of the season. But first day-itis sometimes gets the better of us and Newcastle could take advantage.

Last time United met Newcastle on the first day of the season was 2000, United won 2-0.

It means feck IMO, but it is a historical Stat I suppose.

    I'm really enjoying Chelsea here.
Scolari has 4 central midfielders on the pitch, but its working nice so far!

    Shocking defending.

This football is stupidly good. The difference between this and what they've been playing before is huge. Deco, you minx.

I'm trying to figure out the formation is it

    Mikel

    Ballack
    Lampard

    Deco
    Cole

    Anelka
    ?

It's hard to tell, but I would have said so far it's:

    Mikel

    Ballack
    Lampard
    Deco

    Cole

    Anelka

Whatever it is, they are playing very well.

    Edit: 2-0 Anelka

Wow. Chelsea look very very good indeed. 2-0

Hope we see lots more of this throughout the season. 4 defenders and the rest are attacking tbh.

    Oh yeah, 2-0 :D

While Chelsea are playing very well, what the hell has happened to Portsmouth's defence? There's some shocking defending going on here

Should United be worrying about Chelsea?

35 mins into Chelsea's season? It would be a bit premature IMO, shouldnt be any more or less worried than ya were this time yesterday

I'm just as worried about Chelsea as I was before this match :) They are our biggest threat, with Arsenal close behind.

I am interested in their system though. Cole and Boswinga are bombing forward and the main providers of width. Against teams with decent wingers who can punish that, their full backs will have to stay back. I'm interested to see how they will cope without that width from their full backs.

United dominated Portsmouth just as much in the Charity Shield (without a good portion of our team). Difference is Chelsea have taken their chances.

True, but thats not to say they will be short of ideas when they do stay put. They seem to have a wealth of options up front and Deco really has added another dimension to their attack. Based on what I've seen today Im very excited about the coming season. :)

I can't believe how much nicer they are to watch. Under Mourinho and Grant they were always effective, but awful to watch. Now they look very well - their movement and passing is more like how United or Arsenal would play. I've mixed feelings about that, to be honest :P

Im glad Deco is looking amazing again. He needed to revive his career, it's really amazing how much he has won and how good he is even though most people wouldn't consider him up there with the best midfielders in the past 7 years. Chelsea look very very impressive, I'll be looking forward to Man Utds reply.

The way Scolari sets up I'd say they'll just try out score the opposition:D

    Hopefully no more boring Chelsea.

Looks like Pauly Shore is allowed do as he pleases today. Handball, elbow and shirt pulling is all fair game.
