This city should do something to give the man a proper send off, he was dublin personified. A night of Beer and dubliners songs around the city or something.

A true legend and an absolute gentleman. I had the pleasure of meeting Ronnie of a couple of occassions and he joined in a sessiun with us one night. Great memories.

    He will be sorely missed

Ní bheidh a leithid arís ann. Slán abhaile Ronnie :(

I hope it's marked across Dublin, my Granddad put gigs on in Ballyfermot back in the day and told me Ronnie was an absolute gent and a true character. There's some people you convince yourself will always be there, and they've long been staples of our city or whatever else.

Will be sure to pop into O' Donoghues in the next few days, and I know what we'll be listening to tonight.

Saying he was "dublin personified" sums it up perfectly in two words.

I remember seeing that TV show too and it being obvious how heartbroken he was without his wife, and life didn't seem to be too kind on him at the end...still,I'm glad he was shown so much respect by everyone from U2,Elvis Costello,The Pogues,Damo Dempsey and so many others while alive. Too often these kind of people have to be lost first to even become appreciated.

He'll be missed but that ****ing song won't be!

    "here's to yooooooou, ronnie dreeeeeew"

    **** off bono, you're a C*nt!

No need for that post, its a good song and a fitting tribute. Bono and the dubliners all know each other years and i think it was brilliant the way the song came about and all the money it has raised for charity,,

Not the time and place for you to post a horrible statement like that, R.I.P ronnie, we will all miss you and long may that song be around.. i seen how happy you were that night on the late late show..

Will toast you when i have a drink tonight..

Dublin lost more than a match today!

More I think about it, the main was in failing health and was completely heartbroken. His family said he passed on peacefully, and that's good to hear. Rather than mourn, we'd do better to remember.

Will toast him tonight no doubt.

    as the light declines

RIP Ronnie - will raise several glasses to you and Luke tonight in memory of your music and the various smokey banters in Neary's back in the day before the PC Gestapo assumed control of our gargle-houses.

With your passing, so passes a small piece of Dublin too.

We'll have to put a statue of you up in the a-zoo now.
