Thinking of buying Sigma 200-500mm lens. Need Advice

It's been annoying me the last while that my Nikon 70-300 lens is just that bit shy on focal length. I was looking through the B&H site and I came across this beautiful Sigma lens. Looking a bit further afield I found out that its got a whooping f2.8 across the entire range. Just what I need in a great zoom. Here's the link for the lens .

    Advice would be greatly appreciated.

    $30,000 US Dollars
    15.7Kg

Have a look at Tamrons 200-500 f4.x-f5.6 instead.

I'll lend you my Wii Fit so you can start training. In return when you're binning your 70-300 I'll take it.

There's a newer version since your link that comes with retractable handle and wheels. The shoulder mounting looks comfy.

ETA: Good grief, I thought this was some kind of joke. The fecking thing actually exists!

You "only" get F5.6 at 1000mm though...

Im guesing you're joking about this,
but you might look into the sigma "bigma"
or a 100-400 range made by sigma tokina and nikon i think

    Hi Rory

Thanks for the advice. The Nikon lens looks great and with a F4 at the 600mm range looks tempting, However the Sigma lens does come with a x2 teleconverter allowing the me to get 1000mm at F5.6 which is a big plus.

Thoie. I might take you up on the offer of the wii fit, as I will have to get in shape for when I take off to the jungle.

I suppose one of my main concerns is
Because it’s so huge you can’t see around it to tell how far away that Grizzly bear really is. But with a minimum focus distance of up to 196.9 inches, I guess you’ll know when to play dead.
    .

The steroids I could probably do with anyway :D

Also if anyone knows a kind hearted bank manager who'll load me the cash without re-morgaging or an even more loving wife who'll just say "yes dear, you work hard so you deserve this present", then plese let me know.
