    Here's one for yee all.

A drug company approaches you, and says they developed a wonderdrug, and ask you to be guinea pig for it.
In return, you'll benefit to the tune of €250million
However, despite feeling no ill-effects whatsoever of the drug itself, you will die in exactly 10 years.

No matter how much of the money you spend to counter this adverse effect, it will not work. You will die in 10 years... but you will be €250m richer.
You will gain no media stardom from the experiment. All is top secret, and your sudden fortune can be made to look like a lotto win or an inheritance from a long lost cousin... depending on what you wish.

    Would you do it?

With that money, you could probably see and do more than you'd ever imagine you'd get the chance to in your life.
If you said yes, would you tell anyone that you will die in 10 years?
(Some would probably be dead much earlier from living an hedonistic lifestyle anyway!)

EDIT - Poll should read 10 years
EDIT 2 - Don't pick at the hole-ridden scenario mentioned above...
EDIT 3 - Hollywood producers... if yee use this as a script for a crap summer movie, I demand royalties!!
EDIT 4 - I like editing. I like cake too. Do you like cake? Think of all the lovely cake €250m would buy

€250 and dead in 10 years - Would you? 157 votes

In a heartbeat. I'd rather have 15 years of doing exactly what I wanted then another 50 or so working for the man.

Huh? How does that work exactly? What would be the purpose of a drug that will kill you in exactly 15 years, and if it's something that is in the testing stages, how on earth are you able to pin-point accuratly when it's going to kill you? Is this something that's been tested already, discovered to have killed people in 'exactly' 15 years? If that's the case, then why would they need a guinea pig?

Sorry, your proposal is full of holes.

Edit: Oh, and now I see that you've changed the expected life time for this so-called wonderdrug that doesn't seem to do anything, except kill you within an accurate time frame, except, no it's not that accurate is it? It was 15 years, no wait, 10 years!

Whiskeyman, you sir, are a phoney!

    It's supposed to be!!
Just tried to bring an imaginary scenario where you came across the possibility of gaining a vast wealth, but knowing your life would be cut untimely short.

Focus on the question itself, and not the scenario Hungus! :pac:

Any sane human being would assess the scenario before answering the question, and the scenario you've presented has flip-flopped from a 15 year life expectancy to a 10 year one. So how do we know we even get this 10 years? This is a lethal drug, obviously, how do we know it won't kill us instantly? How do we know it won't kill us at all, but leave us in a severely marginalised state of health, such as a coma without hope of recovery?

Huh, what happens then? We're in a coma, with millions to spend on a nurse to fluff up our pillows? This is far too shaky a proposition, for shame.

Ooh this is a tough one - I'd probably do it alright.

If it was 15 years instead of ten I'd probably do it good and quick...

I'd take the other wonder drug that lets you live for 200 years and gives you 250 billion euro.

Ahhhh the power of the imagenation :)

Can you imagine how hot she'd be for all that money...?

With the things you could do with that kind of money, I would be dead in less than a year, regardless of any drug.

Or possibly because of several drugs...

We'll let marketing deal with that!

I definitely do it. As was said above, I'd die of excess within a year, so it's a good deal for me.

    I'll take the cash, I'm 97 anyway.

    absotivly posulutly!

people who say that money cant bring happyness are...well, jealous, stupid and poor. I know this.

knowing youre going to die in ten years would be fine, it means you dont have to worry about investing and keeping tabs on your money. you would be free from responsibilty, free from future expectations. you would be a free man (or woman)

10 years of absolute freedom with cash in hand. thats living. you would live more in those 10 years than most people would live in their lifetime IMO.

and just to beat the system, id waste myself a day before the deadline.... mwah hahaha

I'd sign my 85 year old Granfather up for that. He'd be happy with 10 years and I'd be happy with his will!

I remember a story (no links as it was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) about a survey done amongst university athletes in America, who were asked would they accept an Olympic Gold medal and all the fame that goes with it but that they would be dead at 40 and a staggering 80% said they would have the fame, maybe some of them are featured here:http://www.thehotspotonline.com/blahblah/articles/cheats.htm
    Flo Jo springs to mind.
The younger members here would probably go for it whereas the older people like myself would probably want to live longer having probably spent 250 million already.

No way would I take this. After a few years of going crazy you would be bored, always looking for the next thrill because you know you only have a few more years to live. You wouldn't get the chance to just sit back and enjoy life...you would feel you always have to be doing something to get value out of your now harrowing and helpless situation. 10 years isn't that long.

I wouldn't do it, as I reckon I'll be a millionaire at some stage anyway. :)

I think I probably would but this answer would change if I was in a relationship with someone.

That would be the only worry I would have about the 10 years I had left too. What if I met someone five years in and fell madly in love with them? Knowing I only had five more years of that would break my heart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,473 ✭✭✭R0ot

Yeah definitely. Not for the money but the guarantee that i'll only be stuck here for another 10 years and no more.

And leave my child an orphan at 10 with that kind of money in her bank account? Fvck no.

I don't even have to think about it. no way would I do it. I like my life and I love my friends and family, it would be selfish to put pressure on your siblings/parents/children/partner by them knowing they only have 10 years with you. If someone I loved did this, I would be mega pissed-off. Anyway, I'll be rich in a few years!!;)

    Yes I would. Definitely.
10 years with 250 million - think of the possibilities.......

*imagines losing it all in Vegas*

    Coooool........

I'll probably be dead within ten years anyway, so I'd take the money.

    Also, poll fixed.

    Thread title still borked though.

What does "you'll dead in 10 years" mean?

It means I'm willing to take the €250m.
