Listings like these can be reported and removed under the Compilation and Information Items policy if they haven't been listed in the Everything Else > Information Products category:

Check the purchase history on that too, some amount of fools caught out by it. I'd imagine that their feedback is going to get hit with about 20 negatives in the next few days, just as soon as they find out they didn't actually get an N95 for €64.

Quality bit of neg feedback down near the end :) Is there something significant about him selling stuff for €64? like an upper limit that cant be reclaimed?

BE CAREFULL WHEN BUYING FROM THIS SELLER, THE GARDAI DON'T SELL FROM BALLYMUN podgebkk ( 3 ) 16-Mar-08 17:05

    rule of thumb

1- no such thing as 'Impulse buy' on the net
2- always always look at feedback + items sold/bought
3- If its too good to be true, then its a scam or/and too risky

60s not too bad, atleast it wasnt over a 100.

I think I broke all three of these the other day, after having my iPod nicked I was biding on a few on ebay but have been out bid every time.

After a few snifters of Port I bid on this without doing any checks.

Sent a few mails inquiring about it yesterday with no reply, and with no feedback to speak of should I be worried?

My sisters BF owes me 60 quid.

    Payment is complete. Cannot cancel.

I would never fall for this on my own, only I took his word. He said 3 or 4 of his friends have bought one too!

Can this person be reported, their credit card must be attached to their Paypal account? Maybe what they are doing is ot illegal, due to fine print?

    Thanks for your help Jimbo78.

same sort of thing happened to me, my dad fell for it and got me one and himself one. but I have messaged the seller to ask for a cancellation and refund saying I changed my mind and they accepted. I suggest you do the same before the sale ends!

    Garda Auction on eBay… scam

A close relative rang me today. “You can get plasma TV’s for €60 on eBay”, she said. Continuing the conversation, she went on to say that it was in fact a Garda auction and they were selling off goods that were never reclaimed.
All though it sounded too good to be true, I’d hate to think that I could miss out on a deal like this!
So I ventured off on my merry was to eBay.ie to see what I could find. I searched for “Garda” first just to see what came up and unsuprisingly there were no results. So I thought I’d be better off searching for “Plasma” since that’s what I was told they were selling. The search for plasma gave me the results that I was expecting, “GAR DA AUCTlON PHILIPS 50″ PLASMA TV 8O%OFF RETAlL PRlCE“. Since they had clearly spelt “Garda” wrong, it was obvious that this was definitely a scam.
Looking a little deeper, you could see that the seller had over 180 positive comments - however, they were all made today and generally by the same person, who had spect € with them.
I really feel sorry for those people that have purchased something from them since they have in fact purchased 80% off the retail price of whatever the item sells for in the next Garda Auction and not a TV at all.
This person had many other items for sale such as Sony PS3 for €64, Sony Vaio for €64… God, wouldn’t it be great if they were eh?
But anything that is this good, you know it can’t be true!

This thread is 4 months old. I suspect it might be a tad late.

I know this is old at this stage, but I need to add, there have never been Official Garda Auctions on eBay. It just doesnt happen!

If it ever did, they would probly have an About me page with all the appropriate contact details of the Garda station.

I still can't believe there are some people out there silly enough to fall for this!

Thats a bit silly saying that ,theres thousands of people who just about know how to turn on a computer ,let alone know a fake auction on ebay.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you can't get a 52" Plasma TV, delivered, for 60 euro though. I believe you do have to be a special form of stupid to fall for this.

because they make money from them and dont care if you lose out.

A lot of people wouldn't know the difference in a buy it now and an auction.
People would think they are part of an auction that started etc.

I don't buy that, they need to learn to read before jumping at something that's quite obviously too good to be true. From reading this thread, it seems that those who fell for it knew they were buying at 60 euro, and truly believed this was the price for the TV/PS3/etc.

There is something very fishy about this seller - if you look at his feedback it is all from buyers whose feedback is marked private -ie you cannot check how many transactions they have had or what they bought or from whom - no trail. It is another outrageous example of the sloppy way that eBay operates that will see the goose that lays the golden egg strangled eventually. eBay are more interested in milking their bona fide sellers by forcing them to use PayPal than running a reputable business. This scammer needs to be forced off eBay ASAP!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

There doesn't seem to be any there this time. Just reported it, there's already 3 fools after buying them.

There is. It's the blue on black (near impossible to read without highlighting) print at the bottom of the screen :
"Ebay: All rights to this product are proteceted under international law. no resale or reproduction of this listing are permited, any and all breaches will be pursued under international law, subscribers agree to recieve url from this company, the listing is protected under international copyright covents"
They may think that covers them, but in fairness, They could send all the feckin URLS they want, unless they send a PS3 along with it, they're misrepresenting.

Thay can also be reported under ebay's miscategorisation rules, as their auctions are all placed in the Baby clothing and PS3/television/mobile phone/laptop etc. categories:

    1: A ps3 aint no babygro
2: A URL for a Garda Auction is not appropriately categorised when it's placed in a ps3/laptop/television category.

As well as P&P Extortion (So Im going to get an Email with a URL in it? and it's going to cost me a tenner? ), Keyword spamming, inappropriate selling terms, hidden text, and fraudulent behaviour. However, the auctions only have 6 hours left to run, and ebay doesn't give a shyte what happens between them going to the pub at 5 on a friday, and them turning on the lights at 8 on Monday morning, so it's doubtful anything will be done on time, and all those €62's will keep rolling in.

I have seen it coming now for a couple of years ... EBAY will be the flagship for the 1st major online success that will eat itself , I give it 5yrs max then it will be a burnt out match !

More and more people I talk with that used ebay (past tense) regulary no longer do , Ebay are more concentrated now on squeezing every penny before (I think the know themselves) the bubble bursts .

How could any Company ,from your smallest corner shop to your multinational allow such bogus scum advertise and scam its own customers , the same customers that made them what they are today .
They have a responsibility to everybody (decent)that they have taken a cent from for advertising on their wedsite , full stop !

Im pleased to say I was wrong about ebay's weekend policy, and he's been busted. Good news.

    I agree with mixednuts tbh.

Call me old fashioned, but the idea of ebay to me always was average people selling stuff they dont need or want to other average people. The fact that nearly every item you search for is dominated by companies selling instead of people ruined ebay for me years ago. even if some of these companies are legit, it works out no cheaper than buying it directly which just defeats the purpose of it.

That coupled with endless scamming, and I just dont see a future for ebay.
