Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The point of the game is pretty simple. In a PM to me, answer each of the 10 questions below.

Try to think of the most popular answer, to get the most people matching you. You don't want a unique answer, you have to answer with what you think everyone else will give.

    *****FORMATTING OF ANSWERS IS IMPORTANT!*****

Write your answers like this; Do not repeat the questions, no fullstops at the end of answers, no spaces between lines, no comments, no fancy list coding. If you need to comment or clarify your answers, do it AFTER the list of answers. Thanks.

    JUST LIKE THIS:

    1. answer <<--- There is a space after the full stop!!
    2. answer2
    3. answer3

Scoring - Any answer duplicated by anyone else is worth 100 points divided by the number of entrants. For example: if 20 people play then its 5 pts per answer. If 4 people match the same answer then that means they each get 4 * 5 (20pts) for that answer. No matches = 0 points.

If you need to comment or clarify a question then do it in thread. And if you could reply once you've sent me a PM it'll help keep the thread on page 1, thanks!

    1. Name a type of food that is stereotypically American.
    2. Name a current senator in the US Congress.
    3. Name a famous American criminal.
    4. Name a popular American animated sitcom.
    5. Name a current American car manafacturer.
    6. Name a state capitol.
    7. Name a river that flows in the USA.
    8. Name a mountain range in the USA.
    9. Name a US state that begins with the letter 'I'
    10. Name a movie starring John Travolta.

So remember, answers like this....(it makes it a LOT easier for me)

    1. xxx
    2. yyy
    3. zzz

So if your answer is wrong, but a lot of people say it, what happens? Question that got me thinking this is the state capitol question.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,912 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ponster

On the first one I accepted all incorrect answers but with this second one it's a question-by-question basis really. I've already received a wrong answer for example for Question 10 but as others are unlikely to repeat it I'll leave it alone.

If though several people all name the same city and it isn't a state capitol then they'll get zero points.

Ponster how long is this one open for entries? Are you stopping when you receive 20 or is it open until a certain time?

You could probably do several a day at teh rate this is filling up! (15 to my count)

Yeah it's filling up pretty quickly. I never though I'd get so many entries and I haven't even post the Boards.ie Quiz yet :)

I'll keep on taking entries until 2 days go by without an entry (or when I get 40 replies whichever comes first).

    Ok folks.....

Due to a LOT of PMs from people from people who all got confused about question number 6 I'm going to change things and give some people
some help. (the question is very badly worded and wasn't meant to mislead people, sorry).

Please pay careful attention to the question and if you want to keep your original answer then you have nothing to do. If you want to resubmit and answer then just go ahead and PM me. Everyone expect cacio has submitted a correct answer but it may not be the one you wish to keep if you discover that you misread the question.

    Question 6 : Name a state capitol

Only saw this quiz now but suprised illinois wasn't top for the states beginning with I.

What happened to Q6.. Nobody get any answers right second time round? Would have thought Boston or Sacramento to be the top answers there.. Or Albany.. they were the three that jumped into me head when I read the question.

Lots of PC problems this week led to a corrupt Excel sheet that messed up my answer sheet. This means that I had to drop 1 question and a few people got some bonus points when they shouldn't have :)

Question 6 was badly phrased and even if the Excel file wasn't messed up I would have dropped it anyhow.

The question was "Name a state capitol" not "Name a state capital", the former referring to a building and the latter to a city. I didn't pay enough attention to the wording so it's my fault if people didn't understand. People answered LA and NY City which would have been incorrect if I was asking for a city and 9 people answered "Washington DC" was was correct if I was asking for the building. It just got very messy to score properly.

    I received :

    Washington 10
    Boston 8
    Austin 3
    New York 2
    Albany 2
    Springfield
    LA

It made no difference to the overall winner by removing the question (but did change things below)
Some of the questions was 'easy' so it meant that you really had to give the obvious answer to be in with a chance of winning.
If you didn't say "The Simpsons", "The Rockies" or "Mississippi" then you had little chance of winning. A coulpe of wrong answers (arnold schwarzenegger is a governor, not a senator) and 2 posters who gave the exact same 10 answers within 60 seconds of each other added a little spice for me :)
