The Georgian president has an EU flag in his office. That's a bit strange  I think he likes to pretend his country is in it.

The US have an alliance with Georgia with bases in the country.
    Russia back the rebels.
Nothing like a good old fashioned cold war-esque proxy war :D

ps Georgia has ALOT of energy resources with a multi billion dollar gas oil pipeline thing

No because he would spend 3/4 of the time in cut scenes that divulge no more of the plot than a dog playing pictionary divulges the actual thing its attempting to draw with its lack of opposable thumbs. [/rant about MGS] :pac:

edit: forgot my generic "I for one welcome our new communist overlords" bit

Are you suggesting America would go to war to protect overseas oil interests?
Pfft , not very likley now is it?

Game will probably be played in Iraq, or some other neutral venue.

Oh and I presume this will be the shortest war evaz?

    LOL @ Iraq :p

Well, the US has backed Georgia in the past so it really is a dodgey situation. Not to mention China will be pissed for them taking their olympic thunder !

Well technically its just over the South Ossetia region which for all intents and purposes is practically independent already. There was a similar situation in Abkhazia aswell if I remember correctly.

I love the final line in the story:
China, where the Olympic Games opens on Friday, called for worldwide truce during the sporting event.

So it's fine when the games finish then is it?

Also am I the only one who thinks the georgian president looks like Alan Partridge?

I like to think that Russia and China have a competition going to see who can do the most ridiculous shit and get away with it.

China: Get to host the olympics dispite a hideous human rights record and stomping on a bunch of tibetan monks.
Russia: Take an armoured divison, a few hundred soilders and as many jets as they can into a neighbouring country and taunt them. Also kick the everlovin' snot out of chechnya when they are bored.

What's the deal behind it? Was it / Is it apart of Georgia's territory? I'm not going to ask who's right and who's right here, as there are always two sides to the every story. I really don't know much about the situation, other than it's a fragile topic between George & Russia.

    Any further info?
