    Its usually cold and wet.
    It smells bad.
    It's dirty.
    It's a complete rip-off.
    People are generally unfriendly.
    The traffic is terrible.
    The amenities are poor.
It's lies on a green smelly, litter filled river.
    Public Transport is poor.

People Holiday in the middle of Africa where there is no public transport, its too hot without air conditioning, very dusty and has no amenities.

I dont see your point. People like to travel and see places, as the capital of the country and a main entrance to this Island a lot of people will travel to Dublin and onwards around the country.

Also, many of your points are moot and mass generalisations.

Wouldn't your list be reasons NOT to holiday here?

But despite them its still a better place than the majority of the country.

It has castles and other fine examples of architecture that other countries don't have. Also, it has a lot of public houses compacted into a small area, also something that other countries don't have. It also has the viking splash tour, something other countries except for maybe Norway, don't have.

It's not a bad city altogether.

lol at culchie shopping day :D

OP if you name any holiday destination, someone can list 10 reasons why nobody in their right mind would want to go there. You make your own holiday tbh.

I doubt many people choose Dublin as their primary holiday destination - they are probably passing throug en route to another destination of rip-off Ireland

Bearing in mind it has the largest airport, and it is the capital city, it is usually a start-off point before heading to the West to buy rip-off Aran jumpers

    With its 'heritage';)

    Hello,

I arrive in from Tamangoes after a Thursday night,

I have to say i am both disgusted and extremely angry.

I never knew that this age in our time in MY community such disgusting and evil things took place.

Tonight in "joes" as its known locally i witnessed perhaps the worst crime i have known, i innocently did not know this was happening.

It was an empty night but we arrived after one or 2 drinks.

After a while we decided to head to the dancefloor, a grey haired man was with about 5 of the young girls, this seemed quite suspsiciouls, he was no less thant 40 years old and the women were no more than 30 years old.

As the night progressed we danced with them but we noticed something suspect, i am quite "nosey" as some might say and as i was interested with this group i stayed in contact.

The grey haired fellow went and danced with each of these 5 men one after the other, well one and the other, now sure if he used each twice.

I talked to these girls and they were like " he's my boss" my friend told me that they had said to him that " he was his dad". oour suspicion grew,

At around 130 when this grew haired man locked his head together with mine when i simply said hello to him i knew something was iffy.

So we danced and these 5 circa 25 year olds danced with, one of mates particularly danced with one of these girls but he grew concerned and at around 230 he confronted one of them, one of the grey haired men approached him and said " if you do anymore i will knife you", my friend quickly exited the premises and was keen to get home, these were not 2 friendly fellows but two criminals threatening my friend.

He went home feareful, this guy is the most friendly guy and is not in anyway at all known for violence.

Anyway me and my other friend now left alone are dancing on the dancelfloor, some older people are with us too...

We dance these 5 girls are present, one goes for my mate, we are extra suspicious... we head for the exit..

Me and my mate and one of the older fellows, go to the bouncers, this is so so weird and that is why i am posting, we point to these 2 strange grey haired characters who have been associating with these young no less than 15 year old younger girls, we pointed them out suggesting they were "prostitutes" which we all agreed they were, the bouncers at first agreed and went to catch them........... but when they viewed them they were stumbled, they go " as sure they are gentlemen" and push me, my friend and older group out of the said club.

I had previously had so much respect for the club, so much heritage, it was the local........... i had never expected a "prostitude ring" to be operating withing the sector.

I am hurt, angry, these guys who used to welcome me with open arms into the club will no more, we have caught them accepting a terrible trade go before them, i am ashamed, but what can i do?

The guards will hardly listen to such menial problems..

My friend was threatened with death due to a nightclubs involvement with prostitution, the nightclub bouncers accept this, as we POINTED out the culprits and they were obviously associated with the club and they proceeded to remove us from the club after just pointing them out! they physically removed us!!

:D Classic! Surely one of the best drunken rambles in Boards history? Sorry WC could not resist! :D

    Public Transport is poor.

Public transport is good. It could be cheaper but thats it. Its reliable and covers a wide area.

Ah sure jaysus, aren't we great crack altogher, lads..?!

I sometimes wonder what foreigners make of Dublin's bus timetables, though...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I can't for the love of me think why. I am from Dublin originally and find it to be a depressing place. It doesn't take much to get me down sometimes but why would visitors want to holiday in one of the most expensive, architectural ugly (not all buildings but some) European cities. A walk along the quays itself is enough to make anyone puke. The cafe's are great but the stench is unbelievable. Gigs is one of the few reasons I go down (as well as work). Rant over (for now)

I met some people recently who said the girls in Ireland looked like sluts, the men were drunks and noone was friendly.

But they were German so who knows.

I don't think it smells bad at all. Have you been in New York or London or Paris in summertime? Or any Asian city at any time?

Litter is a problem but again, it's no dirtier than any other similiarly sized city anywhere.

It's expensive, I agree. I have noticed a lot of places have started to do 3 euro drinks nights, menu specials and discounted rooms though.

I'm sorry, but the people are generally far friendlier and more helpful than any other capital city I've visited.

Traffic isn't really an issue for the majority of tourists-they can walk or get the DART or LUAS to all the major sights.

The Liffey only really smells bad a few days a year-maybe you're mistaking the seaweed for green coloured water and litter.

You don't have to be German to see that.

Unfriendly sluts? Isn't that an oxymoron. Sluts are always really friendly.

Oh well sure. If we're going to go comparing Dublin to your fancy other cities, then of course it's going to look bad. What was my point again?

I don't know what your point is

    Its usually cold and wet.
    - No dice here, maybe a weather control machine?
    It smells bad.
    - No it 'can' smell bad on certain days when its warm, with a low tide and onshore light breeze. Otherwise not really.
    It's dirty.
    - Some areas are dirty, I for one think it is improving steadily
    It's a complete rip-off.
    - No dice here
    People are generally unfriendly.
    - Like every society 'some' people are unfriendly.
    The traffic is terrible.
    - Not really, its a very walkable city. At peak times in some areas its bad. Like many cities. Bear in mind visiting Dublin doesn't usually involve a trip to the M50.
    The amenities are poor.
    - Don't agree here, some great parks, a blue flag within city limits, and lots more besides
It's lies on a green smelly, litter filled river.
    - No dice here, really needs a good cleanup
    Public Transport is poor.
    - Wollox, for commuters at peak hours public transport is not sufficient, for tourists its absolutely fine.

Now, lighten up, sometimes people are big moany pants ... thats right I said it ... moany pants.

Venice - a popular tourist spot.

Its usually cold and wet. - Cold maybe not but definitely wet. There's near permanent flooding.
It smells bad. - Yep. Anyone I know who's been in Venice said it smells like a sewer.
It's dirty. - Probably. I mean if a small bit of flooding in Limerick means a boil water notice then what happens when you're streets are permanently flooded?
It's a complete rip-off. - Sure why not. Most top Italian tourist spots are.
People are generally unfriendly. - So my friends said.
The traffic is terrible. - Nowhere near as bad as Rome though.
The amenities are poor. - Dunno but for the sake of this post, yes. Why not.
It's lies on a green smelly, litter filled river. - pretty much
Public Transport is poor. - Gondola ffs? Enough said
