With only a few days left before the start of the Olympics it's all quiet in this "sports-obsessed country".
Anyway some famous economist has come up with a model and predicted that Ireland will win 12 (!) medals in China:

They probably do it based on who has money, all seems to be wealthy-ish Western countries at the top.

Big difference in some muddy water (from excessive rain, NOT pollution) creating a potential "health and safety" hazard to swimmers and high air pollution leading to athletes and fans being unable to breathe easily...

Derek Burnett has an excellent chance in the trap event, and apparently our boxers stand a good chance as well.

We could do well in the equestrian events as long as our horses aren't caught taking drugs :pac: If Jessica Kuerten is there though I hope she wins nothing. Can't stand her, one of the few sportspeople that really makes me mad :mad:

Other than that, we have a decent chance in boxing (which I don't like as a sport), rowing (meh) and possibly Athletics (that's a big "possibly" though)

China are probably gonna sweep the board - some of their athletes are crazy and have practically been locked in training facilities since returning home from Athens in '04. With national pride at stake, I think they could outdo the U.S. this year.

The shooter, 2 or 3 boxers, the rowers, Hession in the 200m has an outside shot and if we field a 4x400 relay team they would have an outside shot as well.
No golds but a fistful of silver and bronze is my prediction.
