What has boards.ie taught you about people?

    Me:

    1. People tend to agree with the current group opinion, rather than go against it. For example, I often see many posts in a row agreeing with an opinion, and then later on I'll see many posts in a row disagreeing with the same opinion.

    2. People's posts or writing style do not necessarily reflect what they're like in real life. For example, I know one person who is very disagreeable on boards.ie, but very agreeable in the real world.

    3. There will always be people who cannot agree on what most of us would consider a simple or obvious issue.

    4. People want to help each other.

    5. There are a lot of shy, sad, lonely people in Ireland.

What has boards.ie taught you about people?

    1) People are much braver behind a monitor and say things they would never say directly to someone's face

    2) There are a lot more people round with serious issues than I had ever thought.

    3) The most opinionated and cantrary posters are usually the quietest in real life.

If you start a thread in After Hours called "Have you ever started a thread that got no responses?" It will be closed before anyone responds.

You might think someone is sane from thier posts, and then you meet them and they're not. Not in a good way either.

    Mustard is quite popular

Dark humour is alive and well :D

    Lot of lonely people around.

Some people can't take a joke, though I think that's down to the fact you can't really express your joke / sarcasm fully with text.

    Someone like Ruu exists.

tbh, I think what happens is that one person stands up and disagrees, and then the "silent majority" take heart and respond. So often I've wanted to post something, but felt that I could no communicate my feelings clearly. Once someone else did though, I would back them up and expand on what was said.

This is so true. I'd be fairly quiet and shy in real life, and I'd discuss questions here that I wouldn't anywhere else.

    Welcome to the world.

Thats one that boards has really hammered home to me. People are fundamentally decent, and will go the extra mile for someone if they can.

    Too true.

That very few people actually do a full days work and will talk/argue about the most random/stupid topics to avoid working.

Some people really revel in the chance of becoming an online celebrity.

That when provided with an alternative, I will never work hard.

If you happen to mention during the relation of a problem in PI that you checked texts/e-mails/bebo to see if your OH was cheating, you'll get nothing but a barrage of abuse for being the lowest form of human and undeserving of an OH. You'll also be told "if you were my bird/boyf you'd be DUMPED!!!!". People get very carried away on the I-found-something-in-an-e-mail stories. They ignore the problem and just start lecturing. Everytime I see someone mention they checked a text behind the OH's back i cringe and wait for the onslaught. And sure enough, every time, there it is!! [By the way it hasn't happened to me - you can check! - it's just sth that constantly bemuses me].

Also some guys on boards are often very quick to poke fun at "fat birds" and mingers and women in general on here but I'd love to see their perfect size 6 Jessica Alba-esque other halves!!!! (If indeed they have one :-) )

    Everyone loves a good argument.

Sex with an ex is always a no no.

Lots of people are genuinely nice and really want to help a stranger with a problem.

1 - Moderators are the online equivalent of the ticket checker in the train station. In their own little world they think they are the masters of the universe because they are given a little power one place in the world.

2 - Hatred of the Roma is almost universal.

3 - Most people are very nice and very helpul.

4 - Some people are just born ass holes

    1) All Dublin people are *****.

    2) Culchie ability on the cyberspace is on the rise, and is posing a threat to the Dubliners monopoly on forums such as this.

Stating something that most rational people would agree with will offend some e.g. "claiming to read dead people's minds is pathetic".

Irish sense of humour generally translates well on forums such as this.

Sure you're from the BÁC suburbs :P

Now, if I took the opinions of AH-ers seriously, the first thing I would've learnt is that if you're female, fat and irish you should kill yourself, (or lose some weight you lazy bitch.)

Some more should come to mind later.

They prefer if it's called the home counties. It makes them feel more independent. ;)

From reading the PI forum i realize that everyone, no matter who they are, has serious issues in their lives.

Also there is great deal of good will towards people, at least in the PI forum.

What always amazes me when looking through threads is how did so many people get through all those years of education writing "would of" instead of "would have".
