I was watching the simpsons on channel 4 the other day, the episode where apu meets his arranged bride mandula (sp?), I'm most people will know the one. Anyway, at the end of the episode homer dresses up as the hindu god to try and break up the ceremony. I've seen this episode many times on tv, but this time that particular sequence was cut out...wft is up with that ?
Is censorship beginning to creep into out tvs ? Has anyone else noticed instances of this sort of thing ?

Is it right at the very end? Maybe they were short on time?

Even a significant number of the "tom & jerry" cartoons have been censored, the ones my kids see have several scenes deleted!

In the episode where the Simpsons go to Japan, Bart is on the plane with a gameboy. The flight attendant asks him to turn it off, which he does. The plane then goes into a nose-dive and the stewardess starts screaming at him to turn it on.

That scene was cut from another version of the episode.

I have another version of that episode. Where homers Ganesh costum is pixalated to blur it out.

Some people may have taken offense at it. Ganesh is a very big Hindu god.

All media companies are jittery after the Danish Muhammed cartoons.

    Real censorship is getting worse.

Journalists and papers will print stories that they know are untrue, if it serves the needs of one of their sponsors.

They will also surpress important public interest stories to serve then need of their sponsors too.

I was talking to journalist who works for a very large media group, who own a search engine. I said I had noticed they selective supressed some news stories and sites. And her attitude was this was normal acceptable practice. That her company had their interests and needed to protect them,, the publics right to true and accurate information did not come into it.

There's no problem with these type of expressions, it's just things that offend people that are from different cultures that cause the problems.

Censorship is on the increase and it stops me in my tracks. I am a very foul mouthed person. I am also very bitter and angry.

Now I hate people who needlessly swear, but sometime a swear word is the only word that will do and I resent being restricted from using it when necessary.

That episode disappeared for a few years after 11/9 but it's back now and I've seen it shown completely uncut since. Some movies were edited/delayed at the time too (Spiderman/Collateral). I think that was more a sensitivity thing than anything else.

Blurring/cutting out Ganesh is a bit ridiculous though. I think censorship has been on the increase ever since Bertie was ousted and replaced by the benevolent General Krull. All hail Krull and his glorious new regime!

    Sincerely, Little Girl

    [nocensor]****[/nocensor]. It doesn't ****ing work.

Anyhoo, I'm surprised with Channel 4. they are normally the last to censor anything. UTV are terrible for censoring anything and everything

Fuck - Aah, there we go

It's mad over here. 'Friends' is severely edited at 6pm. Any reference to sex and all that is cut out. Once 7.30pm comes though it's 'Fuck' this and 'wanker' that, like one of those Roddy Doyle books Ted.

'Ride me sideways', that was another one

UK television censor everything. Ever watch Paramount? Irish TV is much more liberal.

thats not as bad as america still. yea whole scenes being cut is crap but watching a movie on network television? I tried watching American History X the other night and while they dont have a problem with neo-nazi's (the sidewalk-curb thing was cut out entirely, really killed the plot for me) they really take offense to words like bullsh*t (usually replaced by bologni) and **** you replaced with screw you, or freak you, or freaking. Didnt bleep out N*gger or Jew but they bleeped out F*ck.

Then they killed Braveheart for me in one line:
The almighty says "Don't change the subject just answer the fukkin bleedin question."

I lost it, and went to watch CNN. I vow to raise my kids on HBO and Cinemax

    Censorship comes in two forms.

    1) State censorship. See North Korea or America for examples: government good, anyone that they don't like, bad.

    2) Liberal ba$tard censorship: censor anything that's bad. Usually to please terrorists, liberals, and religons that try to limit information any way they can.
