I was called by a blank number

Hey,

I just got a call there and I looked at who was ringing me. The screen was blank, no number was showing at all. It freaked me out so I didn't answer it, and my phone has the missed call down as unknown. When somebody witholds their ID, my phone shows the word withheld, so this is different.

Has anybody experienced this or know what it could have been?
I got a call from 3 earlier, which shows as 0833333333, but do they have the ability to do this?

Also comes up like that when people ring from within a company where they might not have their own direct dial or don't want it given out. Sometimes "withheld", sometimes "unknown".

its the same if the cops ring you.it just comes up call on the screen

It can also happen if someone uses the internet to call you!

Oh and 0833333333 is Three customer care number!

Also used by marketing companies. They have a automatic dialling system. A computer dials all combinations or a particuar number sequence. I.E. 0862*****1, 0862*****2 etc. The computer shows no number and when you answer the line is dead. The computer registers that the line is in use and logs it. Then the marketing company can get a list of all active numbers and send out junk!
