self booting program to tackle blue screens

read a while ago there was a linux based cd that could boot up and load and find the last known good config when windows gets blue screens . any know of this or simalar?

windows has this built in just press F8 on startup

cheers mate did the usual windows tool stuff ... just blue screen ..
http://www.registryrepairsolutions.com/ read up google but these apps dont seem to be self booting to get in to run and repair mode.

do you get anything specific from the blue screen error?
or will it even let you boot to safe mode?

What changed where made prior to blue screen?
