Do you know what, sent all the feckin' foreigners home. Then when the barstool racists leave the pub- they'll have no take aways to go to  I was at a football match last season, and one of our players came on off the bench. He's black, and Einstein behind me picks up on this. Now our lad goes and trips on the ball. "JAAAAYSUS, YA BLACK BOLLIX YA" and all the rest. Ten minutes past, and the 'black bollix' goes and scores a cracker of a goal. He's a hero now to Einstein behind me. That story is pretty typical of the braindead type of racism in Irish life. 'What have you done for me lately' stuff.

    ....

Excellent post, but this is generally reflected around the world.

your talking of "1st" world countries, considering britian and america are the reason most of the "3rd" countries are the way they are.....Australians treatment of the aboriginies americans thinking they are the world but then claim to be irish and butting in where their not needed. The thing is britian conquered both america and australia and then sent us Irish there. Its the "1st" worlds ideaology that they know whats best just because their standard of living seems better. Except we in Ireland have one of the highest suicide rates in europe. look at oil prices and say how do we have a better life. Our biggest regret is that in some way we our "1st" world is responsible for conditions in "3rd" world countries by thinking we needed to conquer just because we thought we had a claim. Our problem is we've always had it easy. We need to realise, now this is in history back in ww1 that our "spheres of influence" do not stretch to enforcing ourselves on others without cause or need. When the spheres of influence were drawn up without ANY consent of the natives of the land we just presumed it was OURS. Now we talk about "foreigners" inOUR country....But sure if everyone is irish I say....come on in. what we took you can have .....So yes we are stupid because we have a pig ignorant past that has taken near 300 years to realise a King is actually a man and everyone bleads red!!!!

Thanks for the History lesson!

I was merely asking the OP if this twat on the radio wanted immigrants from wealthy developed nations kicked out. I was wondering if it was a prejudice against all foreigners, or just a prejudice against ethnic minorities and/or people from poorer areas (like Africa, or even Eastern Europe)
I wasn't looking for a debate on colonisation.

No prob:) I think most people might be racist , well from where I come from, against those who are looking for hand outs. But from my own experience everyone just wants a life the life they think to be better to the one they left behind.

Really bottom line is, come to a new country and work hard etc, contribute to society etc. If you do, for the most part you will be entirely welcome. F**k about and then you should be f**ked out. Who cares where.

Wow certainly see how much you care for anyone. Do we just live to survive or better eachother by CARING for eachother.?? is surviving truly living and by getting by, just, is that enough?? I've seen more Irish waisters than " Foreign". Lads hanging round doing nothing. And I ask where are the parents?? We as a nation have become so tolerant of people getting loads for nothing!! Maybe its not the "foreigners" we should look at but ourselves.never judge. To change YOU have to change first.....It has to start with the inside before the outside can change...

    Keep ireland Irish.

Some people are f**king idiots. I wonder if he considers Irish born to non-Irish people "foreign". What about those who aren't Irish marrying their Irish partners?

IMO, as long as you pay taxes you're more than welcome to stay here. I'm not working my arse off so others including Irish people can have it easy. Regarding crime, they should do the time in Ireland if it was committed here. I'm not entirely sure what the law or politics is behind it but I'm sure an Irish person would have to do the time in the other country if they committed a crime there.

In this day and age I can't understand why people aren't as openminded as they should be. I think multiculture is fantastic (ok, I know I'm biased) but I love meeting people from all over the gaff - from down the road to someone from the otherside of the world.

There's people in every single of the country who have emigrated elsewhere. Ireland is not the first nor the last. Get over it - we will always have "foreigners" come here.

    F**king muppets.

If only your state law reflected your hospitality, Aspiration. In order to have my visa renewed for an average period of 6 months I need to be able to prove I have valid medical insurance and at least 3000 euros in the bank, as well as an address, and a school attendance above 85%, and well you can see where this is going. Those are all genuine limitations placed on me staying in the country: and then I have to pay 100 euro after that to just get the ****ing stamp. and if previous discussions are anything to go by it wont be long before they also need to take my biometrics as well; it will start with fingerprint scans and move on to retinal scans and bloodwork. 3 guesses who gets the cost of all that placed on him.

Its getting harder and harder to feel welcome here.

    Im feeling the love, really.

Seriously I feel awful everytime i have to go to immigration and wait in line with every other foreigner; to the Gardai's credit they treat us all with the same disdain :D

Ah dude same as me! They also ask stupid questions, it's like they think all foreigners are sponges etc....

Once i had to remind yer one there how much i paid in fees:eek:

On topic: hmm 29%... imagine if all the Irish people in America, Australia and Britain were sent back home... Very interesting!!!!

btw i wonder what they consider as foreigners...

We are a Mongrel Nation, to paraphrase Eddie Izzards TV programme about Britain, we comprise of many peoples, whose only real claim to "Irishness" is the length of time it's been since ALL our forefathers, or foremothers for that matter, stepped off the boat, so let's not hear so much talk of Irish.
Seems that the classic Irish identity is wrapped up in our troubled relationship with the UK and the religion issue, the interesting thing is these factors matter more now than they did to the average person 100 years ago.

There were plenty of Irish nationalists who were protestant, Wolfe Tone for example.
We can see that the defintion therefore of being "Irish" is in constant flux, and will continue to be that way forever.
We should accept new citizens as brethren, we do not shun Irish passport holders with french surnames, Nugent for example, or for norse surnames, Anderson, or even Welsh surnames, Jones. So why should Ekpo be any different?

As the above said, all you have to do is to positively contribute to society to be a part of it, and if we send packing all those that don't, an awful lot of "Irish" men and women, with lineages green to the core, will be booking passage.

Overheal, I assume you're a Student? Jebus Students are more than welcome here as far as I'm concerned - isn't the Irish education system considered one of the best? I don't expect Students to pay taxes- they have enough tuition fees and visa fees of the sort. I'm talking about people living in the country who make no attempt to find a job and are complete wasters claiming benefits because of their own laziness.

MIN, I also want to know what's considered "foreigners".

yeah im a student but its a pain to try and do all this - honest - grown up stuff, like arranging my health insurance and all of that. right pain in the hole.

Plenty of "Irish" dont pay taxes at all.

Also, (inner hippy speaking) None of us OWN the world. Who are we to say anything about who goes where? We are all just hoping mother earth dont exterminate us...

Students are a totally different kettle of fish altogether. Students come here to avail of our education system at a price. The fees are rising for these poor Students and it's a painful process to come over here to study but nevertheless they are not a bad reflection on our "foreign" society whatsoever.

As I said already, I'm talking about those living in the country who claim benefits because they couldn't be arsed looking for a job. It's pure laziness.

I hope in real life people are making you feel welcome in this country :)
