Fuel Prices!

Are they ever going to stop increasing?

Going through Carrigboy on the way to Athlone, petrol was at 1.35. Thats the highest I've seen petrol at so far this year. I don't recall what diesel was at. Im sure others have seen higher prices elsewhere also.

If Athlone had a proper public transport system, I could consider selling my car.

Rant, moan etc..

Its nearly €1.80 AFAICR in that statoil in the quays in Dublin...

Crude just hit a new record of $145 a barrel.
So no. Prices may be up for a while.
Sucks.
Particularly if you just bought a car with a bigger engine than its predecessor.

Stay away from Topaz ten cent dearer per litre then a lot of the other smaller garages.

My car is only a 1.4L so its not too bad.

I remember €40 worth of petrol used to fill the tank. Now it could possibly take €60 worth of petrol.

The ex-Statoil on the quays isn't quite as daft with it's pricing anymore, well in comparison to everywhere else.

It's not like you can travel much faster than the speed limit on Irish roads anyway.

Or adapt your driving style, I have a 2 litre celica. Driving it hard I get mid 20's mpg. But if I take it easy I get mid 30's.

All down to driving style according to Top Gear the other week. They raced a Prius around their track and had some BMW(?) following at the same speed, so an easy drive for that car, and the Prius had much worse mpg at the end of it due to it being driven by The Stig so right on the limit.

Opec expect the price to hit $170 a barrel before the year is out so you will be looking at least another 10cent on top of the current prices.

Highest I've seen is the Maxol in Artane @ €1.35.9, apple green has been the cheapest I've seen, Apparently theres one in ashbourne and it's €1.24

Averaging €1.37.5 per litre of petrol in Dundalk, except for one or two stations...diesel at about 1.45 or more last time I noticed. The joys of living beside the border...at least I don't live over the border.
Of course this whole spike in oil prices is all down to my sh*tty luck...the day I got my full license and ran out to buy a 2lt coupe (replacing a 1lt shopping trolley) was the day the price of petrol started climbing from around the 1.18 mark. Typical of my luck, but meh, I enjoy driving, so the 80 quid or so a week is money I would have just blown on a nights drinking a few years back...

1.29.9 in real terms that's 1.30 a ltr in Mc Loughlins of Newbridge, it's 1.31 a ltr everywhere else around Newbridge.

I spent the grand sum of €91 to fill my car at 129.9/litre it will get me 380 to 400miles if I take it handy or around 300 if I floor it. A mate of mine is now burning €145 of Diesel every four days, however he is selling everything, fired his 20 staff and himself and the missus and kids are moving to Queensland, Australia to start a new Fianna Fail free life.

Also, Tesco are 128 for petrol, but sometimes they do a 5c off per litre thing so 123 is better

Why is it so much more expensive in the UK?

Not always true.

Topaz garages along with other brands will always nearly match a Tesco or Applegreen in their locality. (Finglas/Glasnevin for example, all garages nearly match the Tesco one)
So hint is if you don't like queuing at Tesco for example, go down the road to another garage and pay maybe 1c extra for the privilege of not queuing.

Looks like the price of oil is decreasing, now we only have to wait till Christmas for that to transfer to the fuel pumps, hard to believe how much some of you are paying for petrol, my c4 1.6hdi gets between 58-60 mpg. Around 65euro gets me 1000 km. Petrol maybe cheaper per litre but you get more bang for your buck with diesel.

I live 16 miles from work and I work 5 days a week and I use a tank-full (€70) to get to work and back. I don't drive anywhere at the weekend and I still have to fill up every Monday morning
