I don't know why but that first post made me laugh.

    Best helicopter vid ever:

    Look at the rotors. Cool.

Is that just an aliasing trick where the frame rate is synced with the rotor speed? Very cool video.

EDIT: Just read the video description. Now I feel like a smartass :(

I wasn't trying to put down spotters like at the airport btw I was just pointing out that there are people fascinated by planes as well as helicopters.

    No problem Sir.

My neighbour though shouldn't be confused with your regular spotter. He also spots the girls from the local school as they walk by. He actually has built up a platform to stand on so he can watch them over his back wall as they go by.

    Sick dude..

If your wondering.. This is my all time favourite Aircraft, the B1 Lancer or "Bone",

    Video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jvjqHHdaHXI&feature=related
You might want to lower the speakers for that:eek:

Everything about her is brilliant, bigger than an average airliner yet only seats 4 and is as close to agile for its size as a figther jet, has variable-sweep wings, is worth about US$283.1 million EACH, Its maximum speed at altitude is Mach 1.25 (about 950 mph or 1,530 km/h),but its low-level speed is Mach 0.92 (700 mph, 1,130 km/h) and has a ceiling height of 60,000 ft.

And they say Concorde is dead..:pac:

Go to an Airshow with a B1 or F15E present if you like loud noise, forget your Heavy Metal gigs this is real Heavy Metal:D

LIES! Planks are stupid and boring

The reason you all love helicopters is cus the pilots are just so cool.like me:p

That reminds me of the old joke

Q: how do you spot the pilot in the room?
    A: they'll tell you they're a pilot

    I don't.
The curiosity of people astounds me sometimes.

Being astounded by someone's curiosity is curious.

I always knew that joke as "How do you know a guitarist at a party?"

The funny thing is it's true. I worked with 2 qualified pilots in a non-aviation job and they told absolutely everyone they were pilots within a minute of meeting them.

was home recently for a few weeks, and noticed a distinct lack of choppers flying above the house since last summer, when they were buzzing by every 10 minutes.

    big business going elsewhere ?

A French man came up with the word for helicopter based on the Greek "helicos" meaning helix and "pteron" meaning wing. He arrived at the French name Helicoptere. The last 'e' was removed from the English version of the word.

My question is what are peoples' obsession with helicopters? In these forums and many others, especially more local based forums, whenever a helicopter flies somewhere low or hangs around for more than a few seconds people are in wondering "Anybody else see the helicopter?" or "What was the helicopter doing last night?". If it's the garda helicopter even better!

I don't get it. Who cares?
Interest in helicopters is obviously a phallic symbol thing, have people noticed how often they're called choppers.

Usually something wrong if you see the coast guard helicopter hovering. Last time I seen one I checked my phone and find out I should have been on a lost diver search, so its not a bad thing to be nosy.

Well i'll let people away with coastguard helicopters if they're in a boat or by the sea.

I wasn't criticising people who are into their aviation. Just the nosy people who must know what a helicopter is doing if they see one.

economy stinks at the moment, thus lack of money and people being able to afford the price of gas and pilots. Like everything else it will swing back around but there is a big decreased in the amount of corporate flights in Ireland as of late.

Oh it is, i once flew from EINN ( Shannon ) to EICM ( Carnmore, Galway ) in a Robinson R44, and the best part by far was when the pilot put her into a hover!:D Class.

Moved from After Hours to Wicklow forum recently

Why don't people listen to my strange anti-helicopter thread thread. No more!
