Pint of blackcurrant squash in T P Smiths opposite Jervis SC is €2 fcuking 70. My local in Kerry gives it out for free. Needless to say l spent the rest of the night drinking pints of water!

Went to yamamori's on georges street with my mam sister and her baby who is 2.
They still charged us a service charge for a table of 4 even though we only ordered 3 meals. I go about 3 times a month but wont be going again.

Spar always have been a little more expensive for their Deli, but comparing Dunnes / Spar there might be only 50c in the difference and I'd rather pay that so I get an edible roll from spar, thank you!

Was in a small town in Guatemala and i was charged for the knife and fork in a restaurant. They said that people kept on stealing them and the money was a tax incase i had similiar intentions. It was only something like 20 cent though. Still and all it had me wondering if you refused to pay it would they have let me eat with my hands.

I got that before aswell, I was outraged, I can even top it off a bit more. It was on this really touristy street in (I think in Budapest), We got charged for The linen. the jug of water on the table (which is rediculous seeing as it was crappy tapwwater, not even a lemon or an ice cube in it iirc), The table itself (yeah, we got charged....FOR SITTING!), and to top it off, they put a service charge on it (They CHARGED us the tip), fücking nerve of them.

That had me pissed off for a few days.

 If someone did this to me, I'd order a glass of red wine JUST to pour all over the cloth.

Jaysus, with all these scandalous prices, im amazed so many people paid!!!

I was in the tea rooms in Rathfarnham castle for lunch a while ago. I cant remember what i paid for it, but i order a spicy chicken panini. It came with a side of crisps. And AFAIK i wasnt charged for the mayo portions on the side. So far so good.

It arrives, and i open the panini to lob on the mayo.... there was 1 piece of chicken in each half!!! It took up about 30% of the surface area!!! No salad or anything else!! Needless to say i caused a scene!! The replacement panini was a better improvement!!

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Ryanair yet. An extra tenner per bag, and an extra tenner for the pleasure of queuing at the check-in desk. All on top of the cost of the flights and the esoteric "taxes and charges".

ah leave ryanair out of this, We'd have to start a thread especially for them altogether!

Yes, Ryanair is run by (what I would define as) a conman. Yes rediculous payment ploys and hidden charges, ignorant service...yadda yadda yadda. But its thanks to O'leary that air travel is affordable. If not with Ryanair itself, Air-travel then with any other airline has had its prices brought down by ryanair.

ryanair is evil. however, its a necessary evil.

I was staying in a hotel in bangkok. We were checking out of the hotel and the woman at reception said they had to check the room before they could give us our deposit back. They then said there was a stain on one of the towel which they simply could not remove so the towel couldn't be used again. Now myself and my friend are very clean girls so we couldn't understand how this occured and we never saw any stains. Plus unless its bleach i don't understand how they could not remove this mysterious stain before they even tried to wash it. We had to let them keep our deposit which was around 5 euro (you could buy 10 towel for that price in bangkok). I was raging so i said if they cannot use the towel again because of the "stain" i'll take it with me. HAHA threw it in a bin down the street. I heard this is a common bangkok scam.

Haha, I got that in a hostel in China - the offending stain was actually a euro coin sized spot of shower gel from when I put the bottle on the bed after my shower.

They couldn't argue that it wouldn't come out in the wash!!! Got my deposit back though!!

SPAR in the airport are horriffic when it comes to prices...€3.99 for a chicken fillet roll and I thought I'd get the coleslaw free - total was €4.80 (!!!), and it was manky and all, couldnt eat it! Never again.

They're also the only place in the entire airport, apart from the McDonalds, that doesn't honour the staff discount.

What airport are you talking about, its says your location is Dublin. I dont know where the spar is and I know there used to be a mcdonalds but for the life of my I cant find it anywhere, is a pain in the arse cos I'm always dropping family to the airport and would murder a mcdonalds by the time I get out there.

... don't pay the service charge.
Although I can't find any legal reference, this article does state that:
According to the Restaurants Association of Ireland, if you are eating in a restaurant that levies an automatic service charge, then if you are not happy with the food, the service or both, you are under no obligation to pay the service charge.

The Spar is at ground level in the short term car park (across the pedestrian crossing outside the main arrivals exit). There's a post office there too.

I was in Stockholm about 2 weeks ago, stunning city but very expensive.
We went into a restuarant/bar one evning and were offered a 'welcome' drink upon arrival. Tyhe braman suggested Moijos, we happily accepted.
The bill arrives after dinner and we were charged €36 for our 3 'welcome' drinks!!

At 12 euro a pop no wonder he suggested Mojitos. Bastard.

To be fair, you know what you're paying with Ryanair, if you don't like the charge, bring a carry on bag and check in online, it's free and it saves you time. I got two return flights to Edinburgh last month for 35e total. How can that be bad??

Think I might have been in the same restaurant in Budapest

When I saw all that sh1t on the bill I went outside for a smoke, and f*cking legged it!

I'm going to be back in Budapest this year, and will probably do the exact same thing

Pubs are required by law to display their prices on the door so therefore it's you that is wrong by walking out and not paying for the drinks.

    They don't always do this

If they do its often almost impossible to see, ie in a doorway where you will be rushed in by bouncers because of a queue

Right again, albeit partially - strangely one of the most frequent questions we're always asked is where the postbox is. There's three. But no post office any more ;)

I was in a small greasy spoon/restaurant in Dublin city a couple of years ago with the OH and we were literally the only customers in there. I asked for a toasted sandwich and a pot of tea. They took the order no problem and then we sat down to wait.

2 minutes later a waitress comes along and asks my OH what she wants to order. She wasn't hungry and said she didn't want anything to which they replied "There's a minimum order of X.XX euro if you want to sit down."

There were absolutely no signs up anywhere that I could see to indicate this and they didn't mention it when taking my order.

I looked around (dramatically ;)) at the empty seats and asked were they serious? Yep.

So off we went. No money for them and a wasted pot of tea+sandwich.

Imo a lot of Irish people are afraid to do something similar. They'll complain about it after buying something extra they didn't even want just to sit down.

I can understand not sending food back in restaurants as people will always be paranoid about spitting etc. but when a place is being unreasonable and ripping you off, vote with your feet/wallet.
