How do transfers work in rugby?

So I've been a football fan for donkey's years.

I've also been a rugby fan for a long time, but here's the thing, I've absolutely no idea how transfers work in rugby. Is it the same as football or what? Or is it radically different? What kind of monetary values are involved?

    Anyone got a clue?

Transfers as they happen in soccer don't really occur in rugby. Generally speaking players only move once their contracts are up, therefore there is no transfer fees or any of that nonsense involved. The only major factor is the wages, which have been steadily increasing over the last couple years (BOD would be on about 350k a year I think, some SH players would be on more in England and France).

Yeah the money is no where near as much as the footballers are getting considering the top footballers in the premiership can be getting as much as £120000 a week so thats crazy compared to rugby.

Transfers are dealt with a bit more amicably usually in rugby unlike the media circus that occurs in soccer as evident by the Ronaldo situation at the moment.

Lets not forget though that Rugby is years behind in "professional" years, and we're already seeing a rake of southern hempisphere players being "bought" by the big wages on offer up north.

It's not long imo before it goes like football and players are bought and sold.

Money has already become a major factor in the "market", it'll only be a matter of time before a union is offered a large lump sum of a couple of million to get the next hot ticket from the south to come up here, but has still a contract to run.

Look at Rocky's move for example, he wanted out of his contract early to come to Leinster, who's to say if it wasn't happening and the player wanted to move and Leinster put a bit of cash on the table to let him leave and sign a deal that it's only for a year or two that they wouldn't take it...

    Maybe that's what happended??
