Yeah that's what my friend's mam calls it.

I'm forced to watch Telly Bingo with my gran. But at least that's far more enjoyable than Winning Streak...

I would prob watch a bit of the show if someone from the same town was on it just to see if I know them and to see how much they win

I wouldn't watch it if I was on it - chringe worthy and embarrassing. Smart arse RTE presenters slagging off mickey joe from Ballygobackwards. Wouldn't ya just love to smack them in the mouth

Oh and another thing, when you consider the odds of getting on that show in the first place, the amounts of money won are pathetic. They are guaranteed €20,000 - big deal. Wouldn't even buy you a small family car.

Guaranteed minimum amount that can be won on Who wants to be a millionaire/Weakest Link? 0

Most of them seem to win a family car on top of the cash anyway.

    It isn't exactly honest marketing.

In order to be in with a chance of getting on the show you must reveal 3 stars. That's actually true but it is very misleading. I used to believe that when i scratched three stars and sent in my ticket that my ticket was in the barrel on the following weeks winning streak.

I discovered after sending 7 cards in that all the winnning cards ( tens of thousands of them) go into an - off the camera - and -sneaky - raffle where only a hundred are chosen to go throught to the tv show raffle.

So if you send in your three stars it will be filtered away by off camera slections and only a handful get to make it to the hexagon shaped PVC barrel that get spun during the live TV show.

The three stars are not one in 100 that you see on the TV. The reality is that they sell the scratch cards with millions of these stars on them so that naive punters belive there is a 1 in a hundred chance of getting onto the show. This was a few years ago and they might have put the facts into small print on the scratch card, probably after a few complaints. If they haven't then it's deception

Its only people 50+ who watch it (which why its still on air)

If a family member or close friend on it
yeah would watch it to see them make tools of themselves - plus get free drink afterwards as they would be in the moola

no being honest ... i don't think it would make any difference ... shouldn't even be televised IMO

There are thousands of people who regularly watch this show and actually really enjoy it, I am not one of them but I would not begrudge them either as a lot of older people get a great buzz from it... horses for courses etc. The one problem I have with it is the dull challenges and cheap tacky sets that are on the show, they change some of the formats every now and then and that makes it even worse! I actually find some of the 'games' ridiciously difficult to understand!! also that guy Mooney is a cheesebag and is terribly annoying.

Surely you knew all that. Most people would know well that there is a just a 100 there from all the ones that are sent in. Apparently they get about 50,000 per week sent in. Very few people who send them in would actually think that they all go straight into the draw as seen on TV. It is frequently explained that they are just 100 out of the ones that are sent in every week. Anyone who has watched the programme a few times would know that. I rarely see it, but I know that.

Is it the same audience of money-grabbing, placard-waving inbreds, every week, or do they change them every now and again?

Eh! No I didn't and please don't get beligerent when I tell you what happened.

I went on a frenzy buying dozens of these scratch cards and wons lots of stars. I honestly thought I was the luckiest man in leinster and perhaps psychic or something. I would rush home in the evenings after work after eagerly waiting all week to watch winning streak. when i had the box on I would focus on Derek Mooney and laugh at his jokes and then use my luck when the time came for the hexagon pvc barrel and I could swear I saw my ticket roll about. Every week I went ooh! just missed it. I would look warmly on the winners on the show wishing them well because secretly I believed that very soon I would be on the show. I was even thinking what i would say, and what i was going to wear.

I mean with a 3/100 chance and by the luck of my charms that had me winning 3 stars every week, then statistically I would win sometime soon, if my luck held out and I kept winning the 3 stars. I was buying loads of tickets and even went around different parts of the county to ensure I got an even spread of 3 stars.

After a while I began to have doubts and was furious I hadn't been picked. I paid a visit to the head office in the city centre, abbey street , if I remember and explained my story and asked how I wasn't winning. The lady casually said that there was a draw before hand that filtered the tickets down to the amount we see in the barrel. I carefully asked how many-hoping it was only a formality to fit them into the barrel- and she gave a huge number in the tens of thousands. I was shocked, flabbergasted. I wasn't lucky at all.

There was never anything on the show that says they conduct the draw the way they do. At the time there was nothing on the card either. There was no websites or flyers or leaflets. It seems it was a need to know situation. It might have been known by some many years ago, but it never came up in conversation.

I don't think I'd watch Winning Streak if my brother was on it.t

I am guilty of sending in the odd three stars every now and then though. I'd love to get on it, I watch one show every few months and they'd need to explain everything to me there and then. Good TV. Most of the oul' ones on there know it inside out.

    love the home-made signs too.

pirelli, not surprised by that story. I had a Granny (dead now, spinning the great wheel in the sky I'd say) who felt truly cheated she never got on Winning Streak despite a similar conviction! In reality I think they follow everyone who gets three stars around for a day and pick the most bat-**** mental of the bunch. Looks that way anyway

Its a great show for the auld ones. My auld lad loves it. He does a little wobble on the couch when they are spinning the wheel, trying to will the ball to stop in on the black inserts for the big cash.

It drives me around the twist watching it though. Mooney is far too condescending.

    Nope.

It's the most boring show ever. There is absolutly no skill involved. Every game is 100% random.

Could they not add a question and answers round or chrystal dome with money flying around, so you gotta catch it or something?
