Firefox 3 redirects FTP to HTTP

This happens on my home machine (linux) since I installed Firefox 3, but not on my work machine (windows) since I installed it there - whenever I type in an FTP address, the browser redirects me to the equivalent HTTP address.

Now, if I type in the protocol by hand, i.e. I add the ftp://, it works...

Anyone else notice this or know what the hell I'm on about?

Opera doesn't do the redirect thing at home, for what it's worth.

seems like reasonable behaviour to default to http. Either that or I'm missing something. Can you give us an example?

If I type in ftp.ikosoft.com it redirects to http://www.ikosoft.com
If I type in ftp://ftp.ikosoft.com it goes to the FTP site.

Redirects to the ftp:// for me if I enter your first example.

Same here. I'm on linux too so it's not looking platform specific. Version info is:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061017 Firefox/3.0

Check your about:config maybe?

ftp.ikosoft.com doesn't jump to the http protocol here (OS X). Haven't tried it on my Linux box yet.
