No, absolutely not. We get about 2 weeks of sun per year, what use would it be?

Going around rollercoasters in the píssing rain would be no fun.

    What we need is casinos.

agreed, its just been pissing rain for the last month, this is supposed to be summer - not ideal weather for a theme park.

Yes we do. A smaller one could be built with a roof.

hasn't stopped people going to blackpool pleasure beach, 11th most visited theme park in the world with over 6 million visitors annually

a proper sized waterpark would have to be outdoor like wet and wild in orlando, an indoor park of any size that people would want to come to ireland to see would cost far too much to be profitable

i agree with casinos, we should offer a stupidly low casino tax, vegas is 6.75% so we should go lower like 5%, if you did that you would have mgm, wynn, sands, boyd, harrahs and station over here at the drop of a hat :D

In fairness, something like Universal Studies could work in Ireland.

I went to Universal Studios Japan last weekend, and it was raining. Lots of the attractions were indoors though, so it didn't matter.

    Are you kidding me?!

Look how long it took us to put together TWO metro lines!!
Look at how long it took to put totgether a national stadium!! (I know, I know!!)

A theme park?! To be typically Irish, it would have to look like something like Duff Gardens and be earmarked for completion in 2025 (i.e. 2032 if we're lucky) by which time there'll have been the mother of all recessions and the thing will be the biggest white elephant on God's green Earth.

Although Global warming will have kicked in, and the Ireland will have the biggest desert in Europe :D so the rain won't be a problem

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

We need more affordable outdoor adventure centres. It won't matter a sh1te if it's raining or not - who cares if it's raining when you go kayacking etc. etc. It'll also get those fatarse kids off their arses and may get you geeks outdoors :p

It rains alot in England despite a whole host of theme parks over there.

I dont think we have a large enough market tbh.

It'd be good to have a decent theme park in Ireland. A waterpark as suggested sounds good.

    What we need is casinos
no casinos a waste of money as theres enough bookies here and mostly open all day including sunday!
Do we need one or not?
of we do:)as the goverment wont allow them due to insurance reasons afaik.
    How about a waterpark?
theres already a few waterparks in ireland.
England has 16 theme parks and doing very well.
Alton Towers is the top one and its brilliant.

if large scale casinos opened here they would put most of the bookies out of business. take the las vegas example in the 1940-1960s there were bookies on every street corner in vegas, then a guy by the name of Frank "Lefty" Rosental opened a huge sport book in the then biggest hotel on the strip "the stardust", overnight the bookies pull weakened considerably. Today all the major resorts in vegas have massive sport books and finding snow in vegas is easier than finding independent bookie these days.

Theme/water parks hell yes. We needed them yesterday.

Casinos? Fcuk no. Gambling is already far too much of a problem here and all casinos do is facilitate even more forms of it and push it to a wider market.

Of course what we'll probably end up with at some stage is a few casinos but no bloody parks...come on in kids and play blackjack...much better adrenaline rush than a silly roller coaster...

I have seen weekend specials advertised in the UK tabloids from Ireland.

I have been to quite a few Theme parks overseas inluding Lunar Park Rome, Portaventura Catalunia, Dizney LA, Dreamworld in Gold Coast Australia, Water Country New Hamshire, and from experience I would not travel to any theme during peak period especially at weekends!!!. My favourite are the coaster rides, and of them the "woodies" are the best :) The one in Mexico City was awesome, and i didn't see any visible signs of H&S regulations. Also a good woodie in Vancouver.

or we could set an age limit of 21 or like bellagio nobody under 21 even allowed inside the door without an adult.

europe has only pathetically small casinos so there is a market and why not ireland. macau generates $10 billion a year in gaming revenues or over $1 billion in taxes for the local economy.
