Half the people here won't remember that, and the other half don't want to.

Anyone care for a dig up?

I think the quality is definitely better than River Island. The hoodies are sooo comfy and warm, good stuff in them.

Dunnes do pretty warm and comfy hoodies.

If it's only warmth and comfort you're after, you could get a few for the price of one A & F.

    What do you think?

I'm actually in a Dunnes hoodie right now, honestly! :) Because me A&F hoodies are too heavy for the summer, so that answers your question there

The quality is good but the Hollister stuff is identical and half the price.
Sure they're made by the same company!

And whoever said River Island stuff is good quality is off their rocker.
It looks nice but it falls apart after about 2 weeks.

The designs belong to the parent companies but the production is sub-contracted out to other companies who sometimes make gear for the competition. The quality can vary as more than one sub can be used and as long as the produced gear meets minimum quality control standards things are fine. The stuff sold by dunnes could well be to the same standard as the more expensive gear.
Sometimes highering the price well beyond actual value and shifting less units makes sense because the product is perceived as higher quality; the prestige, or idiots with money to burn, effect.

Avonmore milk is more expensive than a certain supermarket own brand despite the fact it's the same stuff.
Certain car companies have been selling virtually the same cars with different badges on completely different price scales for years.

A-Wear and Brown Thomas are the same company..doesn't mean they're the same quality ;)

Don't think anyone said that River Island was good quality

Indeed. Perhaps the most ridiculous example of this is Paracetamol and other such common drugs found in supermarkets. There are always several different brands available, and they're all essentially the EXACT same product, yet there can be a price difference of over 100% between the dearest and the cheapest brands - and somehow, the companies producing the most expensive ones stay in business, so some idiots are obviously buying them....

The A&F shop in London didn't have a name outside it, which immediately got my back up, I mean, talk about condescending to your customers. I was there to get something for my sister but much as I love her I could not in good conscience hand over my hard earned cash to these evil folk who thought that that the customer wanted was a complimentary Polaroid picture of themselves with a topless blond, practically-plastic guy (gross and lame).

Can't believe they didn't even have a name outside....that says a lot. I actually like them a lot less after hearing that. Its as if they're saying they don't need a name on it, that they can charge way more than the US prices and still get money out of 'wannabe Americans' or so they think....Americans think everyone wants to be American. Yet every chance they get they're going on about how they have 'Irish roots'. When I was over there some even went to far as to tell me they WERE Irish, nevermind the insignificant fact that the only connection they had was their aunt's, husbands second cousin, through marriage...ah no I'm messin bout that part

Went to the one in Chicago. Being a poor student I couldn't afford anything, just went in to look at all the fit birds workin there.

I got a really nice zip-up hoodie in River Island that I've only worn a few times and the sleeve already has holes in it :(
Never been to an A&F store (never been to America or London) but I've seen the clothes their site and they look nice enough, though nothing special.
I'd definitely go out of curiosity though, see if it's as bad as ye all say it is!

I bought some A & F stuff in Malaysia. They're were either seconds or really really really good fakes. Buying stuff I'd actually seen on the A & F website actually cost me less then buying a similar item in Penney's. It was seriously awesome!

Just to address this one; it seems that the Tesco milk has a shorter shelf life (by 2-3 days) than the Avonmore milk, which itself has 1 day (usually) less than the Premier Dairies milk. (despite it basically being the same stuff, which I agree with you on)

you deserve everything you got for wearing A&F in the first place

I've noticed that. The Glanbia milk under the avonmore label and the own brand do have different best before dates. Could the supermarket own brand have an extra link in distribution?
Premier and Avonmore, despite both being Glanbia, might have slightly different blends.

It's in an 18th century listed building.

Would you prefer a big massive plastic Abercrombie and Fitch sign outside?

I was in Conneticut with my mother and we went to the A&F store in Danbury. It wasnt as crowded as the NY store seems to be but was equally as dark and loud.
My mother told the server that he was at risk of premature deafness if he had to listen to that music every day :D

Agree with previous posters about how pushy sales staff can be in NY. A great tactic is to always shop with your iPod playing, they know well their sales pitch is nowhere near as good as Dark Side of the Moon:D

Was in there 2 weeks ago and had none of the problems people going on about.

Didn't have to queue, place was busy but not packed (about 4pm on a tuesday). Sure it was dark but could still see fine, music was loud but could still discuss stuff, got asked once if i needed any help (just like any other shop in NYC, worst i found was Banana Republic but still wasn't intolerable). Sure the perfume/cologne was perhaps a little strong but wasn't a big deal.

One thing i did find weird was that a staff member was standing at the bottom of the sub level stairs singing away but that wouldn't put me off the place by any means :p Personally quite liked the place.

I've never owned A&F stuff before but the hoody i bought is now by far my favourite one. So comfortable, just wish i'd bought more. Prices were decent but then again everything was cheap over there, i doubt i'd often buy their stuff (or any other stuff i bought) over here.
Shame they're not over here but I heard a rumour they're opening a store in Dundrum??
Don't they have a shop in Dun Laoghaire now where O' Connors used to be?

Nope tis all fake in there or else they're buying it over there bringing it over and re selling it, there was rumours A&F were looking into legal action against them too.
IMO its fake, I have 1 A&F hoodie from 4 years ago from the states and I ran into a girl here wearing the same design but it was the type that are available here and there was obvious differences, colours weren't as strong, lining wasn't as thick etc...

Nope, its exactly the same stuff. The same milk, from the same farms made in the same plants. Avonmore and Waterford foods (i.e. Premier) merged more than 10 years ago and people still think the milk is different. Its all in their heads.

Dunno about the supermarket own-brand stuff but I would suspect it is probably the same again.

I'll have to drop in sometime since it's only 2 minutes from work. I do know that A&F applied to Dun Laoghaire/rathdown county council in 2005 for a store but can't find any thing else about it.

Was at the one in Chicago too, promised my gf I'd buy her an A&F hoody when I was over there. Topless guy at the door, didn't know where to look walking by him, incredibly loud music, terrible lighting and the smell! they must be requirments for each store...to make it worse I got the wrong size hoody and had to go back the next day, im ok now though, im over it.
