Tried to get in last Friday with money up front and told that I had No Chance!
Time Sheet full and they are not expecting drop outs.

Ah well Matt, so much for that, Woodbrook on the 29th it is so.

Ok, HI, I play off 6 but have never played a junior scratch cup. Whats the story witht them. 36 holes i believe. Stroke or stableford? I am down to play in black Bush on Saturday. What should i expect.

    Hi all

Not one for the scratch cups myself, prefer stableford comps.

But if you go here: http://www.gui.ie/open_fixtures.asp?pid=14&area=1 and do a search for the word scratch you get every scratch cup in ireland returned.

I'm down to play in that one too. 36 holes. Strokeplay. Your two scratch scores added together will be your score. The lowest two round total wins. There will also be prizes for best nett, and best nett/scratch score in each round.

Not sure what else to say. Black Bush isn't the best, but not a bad track all in all. What time you playing at on sat?

Anything else you want to know, just ask.

Thinking of playing the Inter SC at South Meath tomorrow, but was wondering if the course is worth the trip down to Trim and the weather could be dodgy tomorrow? Anyone played it? The website has no pics.

    Thanks.

Tough day at Black Bush on Saturday. Pretty much a washout. 5 over (78), 7 over (80) won it in the end.

Despite all the rain, greens were absolutely superb.

Anyone going to Woodbrook this Sunday for the JSC?

After a week in bouncing around very different kinds of clubs in Ibiza my skills are primed and ready ;)

    Haha, c'mon da picniiic!!

Woodbrook tends to have good players at most levels and the course will draw a good field so my own expectations are pretty low but we'll see how it goes.

Unreal. It was playing tough in the wind and rock hard greens. Played with a 5 h'cap from Woodbrook who had an 82 and their soon-to-be assitant pro who shot 88 and something else silly.

I played pretty crap. We had a gig at midnight in the button factory on Saturday night. I had nearly 10 cans of Druids cider. My preparation probably differed slightly from that of the lad who shot even par ;)

A week in ibiza and ten cans of cider the night before!

    That's John Daly-style preparation. :D

What did you make of the course? Looks very good in pictures. Would've liked to have gotten down to play in it.

Ah it's a brilliant track. Very oldschool, not overly long but meaty enough in places. You can spray it in places and loose drives in other places can be dead and buried. Greens are always good and the turf in general is great for good ball strikers - very firm, heathy/lynxy in places but it is a parkland course.

It's hard to put your finger on what's good about the course but the whole set-up with the club-house and great practice areas, it's just a nice place to be basically.

Bit of a dilemna on the 27th of this month...

There are junior scratch cups on at Royal Tara, Westmanstown and Beaverstown on the same day. Not sure if any are 36 holers, but i'm not sure which one to go for. Never played any of the courses so can anyone recommend which one would be best?

On the same day there's also JSCs in Delvin Castle, Mountrath and Old Conna too. (although i'd kinda already ruled all these out for myself.)

    Any thoughts?

    Avoid Westmastown, fairly dull.

Royal Tara is a decent course and I quite like Beaverstown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 391 ✭✭Paulusmaximus

out of those three it would have to be Royal Tara. The greens in Beaverstown are very severe and can break your heart. Royal Tara has lots of reachable par 5's and you'll get plenty of birdie chances on some Par 4's. Its a very enjoyable, mature course and you'd want to be very straight off the tee..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Mister Sifter

Cheers lads! Royal Tara it is.

I'm going to Old Conna that day. Have played well in JSC before when it was 27 holes with a 9 hole shoot out for the top 30 after 18. It's also near my bird's gaf so can crash there and have a short commute.
