Bf was dying of a hangover today so gave him flat L & P (a NZ drink - lemon and paeroa). It;s like lemonade but nicer and that worked great for him. I guess it must tbe the lemon flavour and sweetness.

My granny used to turn the bottle upside down and stand the bottle on the fireplace next to a roaring fire for a couple of hours whenever I was sick.

This apparently turns the 7up into some magical elixir, and makes the bottle easier to open, according to her :D

Not quite boiling, but warm, flat 7up did cure all.

Plus the other option for me was usually some absolutely vile medicine that I can still taste - Augmentin or something.

let me guess.. fellow tonsillitis sufferer??

flat seven up.. dear god i hate it. negative connotations all the way now. I cant drink it these days, sick or not..

Mods can you delete this thread please? Every Irish mother knows flat 7 up is a one size fits cure for all known ills and ailments.... but if the lads at C&C (too lazy to find out if this is where 7 up is made) find out about its effectiveness as a panacea, they'll hike the price up and you'll only be able to buy it in Boots for €5 a litre (still cheaper than Ryanair but with no bj).

Some things should be kept to word of mouth.

    Flat 7-up!

9 out of 10 doctors recommend it!*

*may not actually be recommended by quoted figure

Doctors do actually recommend it..was very surprised when my doc did. I thought it was a cure-all thought up by parents!

I always used to get a duvet on the sofa and hot orange (later found out it was lemsip or somehting similar)

It was never in my house unless someone was sick, but the sick person rarely got to drink it, because the non sick people drank it before it got flat!

yep a wonder cure alright.. its up there with sudocream(cures all external ailments) and a small glass of milk ( heart-burn).

It's true. Flat 7up fixes everything. I much prefer drinking it flat than i do fizzy... and yes Augmentin is manky.

Right, we had a discussion about this last night at the beers and boiled 7-up is wrong. It's 7-up with sugar to take out the fizz. And it does fix everything apparently! :D

Yep, I was dosed with boiled 7up as a kid, for tummy upsets - (warm, not flat). Even now whenever I'm sick, I can smell the boiled 7up - must be all those repressed childhood memories:p

I felt sick last night and drank flat ice cold sprite. Worked!

Only recently, there was something in the paper about the 7up thing being a complete crock.

I don't think I was ever lucky enough to have been given a 'labelled' drink like 7up. It was most likely boiled KVI white lemonade.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

Yep, used to always get warm 7 up from the parents, good stuff.

One time I fell of a building while being shot with machine guns and rocket launchers, all direct hits. I was then smashed into the ground by a helicopter which was carrying a nuclear bomb. The bomb detonated and destroyed the surrounding area. Just when it seemed to be all over it appeared I was in the path of a tiny localised gamma ray burst. Oh ****, you could say.

How did I survive to tell the story?

    7Up.
