What's the purpose of the http connectons to a pc that Peer Guardian blocks? Including mainstream sites like the BBC and RTE. It's simple to lift a block but just wondering what exactly a http connection from them to me is, and why they do it.

www.drivingtest.ie starts an attempt to connect by Irish Defence Forces.

Most of the IPs it names are ad companies, US government, US universities. I presume it's info gathering, indexing etc??

I would imagine it would have something to do with a "3 way handshake" ... perhaps HTTPS or something?
