I don't really understand where Conbro's coming from, I've always thought the mods here were pretty lenient.

as I much as I hate some of the crap and the apparent naivety of SOME new posters, there's no real solution in terms of restricting access. its democracy essentially - its not great but its all we've got.

remember also that some of the most respected posters on this site were very unpopular at first

and is there any evidence of posters leaving because of the newbies? I mean has anyone actually come on to the forum to say they'r enot posting any more because of this?

I do remember one or two mentioning it, can't definitely name names though, Norwich Fan Rob maybe? I could be wrong.

jesus and there is a name I haven't seen in a long time. who else is not posting? have some people just moved on, from poker generally or from posting generally?

i think on the other hand the lads who suddenly appear and are hyperactively posting ought to get bored relatively quickly and then disappear. but the quality of the forum is undoubtedly worse than when i first started reading it (though I can't claim to have done anything to address this either).

just as a matter of interest, if i put a poster on ignore do his posts simply not show up? ironically, i'm slow to do this because i partly enjoy watching muppet posts and other people slaughtering them

Yes; there's quite a few respected posters who couldn't be bothered to post anymore.

Their name shows up and instead of a post it tells you that this poster is on your ignore list and gives you a link to your ignore list. Yeah at the start I kept on feeling that I was missing out on something and would take them off ignore just to see what they said then put them back on again, it passes though and it's great.

I think another problem is that, with all the off shoot forums, most of the real content has been taken away from the main forum so it's all NVG crap and pure noise at the moment.

Go to User CP in the top left and at the bottom of settings and options you can edit your ignore list.

I actually agree with you on that, but whats the odds that Giostarvas and the latest troll are the one person and I wouldn't be surprised if they were a member of here already

    +1

I'm completly for the new provisions. I am so sick of coming onto this forum, a place we've all used from time to time to improve our game, and see it degenerated to this. I'm sick of it. I remember the days of Fuzz, HJ etc and the strat they'd discuss was second to none.

Now, the signal to noise ratio is gone to hell. So many people think it's funny to just start up new accounts and then circumvent bans

Maybe if the mods weren't so f*cking leniant this wouldn't happen, or maybe they're afraid of a bit of work? But when I see top posters like Mac claiming they don't even read the forum any more or other top posters not around and instead we have this crap it just ruins it for me. While the gossip here is funny, and some of the off topic banter is ravier sharp, fierce and witty from the get go, we're not here to shoot the breeze. This is for strat, and should be moderated as such. We need to encourage the good posters back, so what can we do?

I say bring in the new provisions, I'll be happy to refer any poster I respect and I'm sure that everyone else will be the same. We're like a family here, let's not allow one or two poison pills to ruin the party. This could be the White Knight the forum needs, weed out the weak and make this forum great again where people like you and me can post strat and discuss the merits of 3 betting light in a 5bb average stack game.

    NOW WHO'S WITH ME!?

Almost all of you, and I say almost, seem unwelcome to the addition of new members. While you may not feel you are, the way in which you respond to new members comments, HH's, etc. reads so. Well, I know it read so to me.

Alot of posters need to read this and read it again. It constantly amazes me the amount of posters who give repsonses to new posters that while might be amusing to other regulars is only ever going to appear rude and ignorant to the newbie. The new poster is the least of our problems here.

I am sorry but this idea that the forum clique is destroying the forum is rubbish. Most of the them post this way to everyone it just comes across rude as the newer memebers are not used to it.

Its always been that way i remember one of my very first posts here when Fuzz destroyed me in a thread about the value of 3 betting q's. Yes he was rude , yes he was arrogant ............. Did i care ? No this guy was far better at poker than me and was giving of his free time and knowledge to teach me so i sucked it up and posted more hands.

Have you looked at this forum recently ?

90% of the main forum is utter crap. The HH's section has about one interesting thread on the whole of the front page.

Funny that when most of the so called clique hardly even post anymore.

    Opr

Not what I said at all.

Exactly why they should exercise a bit more restraint with new posters. Doesn't take much to have a little consideration.

Thats not what I meant at all. You have to accept criticism when seeking feedback on a hand but I see alot of really pointless attacks that have nothing to do with hands.

You are talking about a seperate problem. As I explained above I was not saying the "clique" was to blame. They just tend to make things worse far too often. If people have a thick skin they will get by here fine but I think it's shame that you have to have one (and I'm not talking about HH criticisms).

simply, "someone else started it" shoudlnt be an excuse to avoid a ban. some posters got away with too much before a ban. if a person has a problem with a post, report it, dont retaliate. if mods stuck to this rule strictly, the forum would be fine.

We do. The problem is with getting people to report posts and not retaliate.
